Hey, I'm expecting a baby girl due in September the current list of names I have are below and I'm looking for any other suggestions to fire at my partner as he doesn't seem to overly 'love' any of mine but also doesn't completely dislike them...

Mabel - my fave and he also really likes this

Mila - pronounced m-ee-l-a
Maeve / Maeva
Malia
Marlowe
Ayda / Ada
Alma
Lennie

Any suggestions welcome 🩷

Myla?
Marla is fine

PumpkinsAndCoconuts · 10/05/2026 20:24

Mabel is nice! And if it’s your clear favourite, then that’s probably the name you should pick :)
I also like Marla and Alma.

Malia is nice in theory but the “Mal” doesn’t have particularly positive connotations (malady, malice, malign etc.), which would bother me personally…

Lennie and Marlowe aren’t my cup of tea (and Mabel is definitely much nicer).

Thanks everyone for the suggestions & opinions so far it’s really helped!! I also have a new name on our list - Marla. Has anyone met any Marla’s or have any opinions on this? Xxx

I'm starting to dislike Mila in our accents so will probably be off our list shortly.

Please send over any other nicer suggestions, I have a huge family so I'm limited on options.

Just to put you off even more, Mila makes me think of milia - the technical name for those little white zits.

Lennie and Marlowe sound like boy names to me.

mumofoneAloneandwell · 07/05/2026 22:22

Mabel

Giraffehaver · 07/05/2026 22:22

Yes 100% this is what puts me off my name has always been pronounced wrong and I don't want her to have the same issues as I did. With Malia I'd like to think it wouldn't get pronounced wrong but how would you pronounce it? To me it's more an AH sound rather than a A if that makes sense 😂

Yeah thats how id pronounce it the same as Mia boardman of teen mom uk or whatever you call it pronounces it

BadlydoneHelen · 07/05/2026 09:38

I meet many many dogs named Mabel -it might put you off I don’t know?

Love this and your other suggestions are great, not heard Ayla before, adding this to our list. Thank you!! x

It's the 'ail' sound like ailing, ailer that's so ugly though. Ail is not a good word.

I really like Mila but it would piss me of that people would constantly pronounce it wrong. I really like Malia to. Not keen on the others

Mabel is really nice. I think some posters are reminded of old people but younger generations will not think of this, they will only know young Mabels. It's a popular enough name in primary schools and nurseries.

I heard a Sibyl at a playgroup the other day which sounded really sweet actually.

REALLYbigpigeon · 06/05/2026 16:40

Mabel is a really nice name! Lennie would also make an adorable nickname for a longer name like Leona.
