Thoughts on Rupert?

I really like the name Rupert. It’s been a name that’s I’m liking more and more.

I’m aware it’s quite a marmite name and I’m not sure if it would bother me if family/friends didn’t like it.

I love marmite and loathe the name Rupert. It's just a bit....soggy. Wupert. But if I ever met a Rupert I would certainly never let on.

I want to say it as Wupert every time I see it but I’m not sure why. I wonder if it’s a quote from something?

I wouldn't trust a Rupert as far as I could throw one.

Why though? I don't understand anyone who judges someone because of their name given very few of us choose our names.
OP I know a lovely little Rupert. It's not a name I would have chosen but it has grown on me.
Whatever name you chose some people will hate it so don't let that bother you and think about what you like.
There are many worse names than Rupert.

I knew an adult Rupert - very charismatic, very popular, athlete, with a PhD and a lovely Northern accent. So I have a positive association with it.

Ha, there’s a Rupert in my family and we are definitely not posh. He’s not wet or weak either. Use it if you like it.

You are right - it is a marmite name, so you have to decide whether you like it or not. Personally I'm a big marmite lover, so I say Yes!

(Also - No one charismatic or shaggable has ever been named Rupert. Um, apart from the Handsomest Man in England™)

We’ve got a cat called Rupert!
When we were trying to decide what to name him and his litter mate we Googled ‘Posh boy names’
We already had a Hugo and we decided on Oscar for his litter mate.
Since then we also had Jasper and Raife (RIP 🥲)
If we had any more I’ve got Rudyard and Thadius on my list! 😆

We have a 2 year old Rupert at nursery; he’s gorgeous, and most definitely not wet!

Rupert Everett is also gorgeous and unwet!! 😁

I love it - probably largely because I had a dear colleague/ friend with the name. Close friends did call him Rupes.
Also know a primary aged lovely boy with the name ( and a sibling called Albie.
If you love it use it.
My DS has a v traditional/ popular name and a cutesy nickname - not everyone loves it no matter what you pick !

I don't like it, I'm now singing the Rupert the Bear theme tune whilst the other half of my brain is repeating Rupes over and over again in an exaggeratedly posh voice.

I know a very excellent cat called Rupert. I did know one at university many moons ago, and he was definitely of the landed-gentry-no-chin sort.

I know a 11 year old Rupert, known as Rupes. It doesn't suit him and I'm not sure it suits anyone who isn't minor nobility with a couple Jags in the drive.
