Thoughts on Rupert?

I really like the name Rupert. It’s been a name that’s I’m liking more and more.

I’m aware it’s quite a marmite name and I’m not sure if it would bother me if family/friends didn’t like it.

It's actually quite popular at the moment around our way at the moment I have come across quite a few little Ruperts.
I think I prefer the English Robert which seems rarer at the moment.

It's fine OP. I'd slightly expect him to be a bit of a mummy's boy, but we all define our own name with our own style and in any case, there are much worse things in this world than a mummy's boy!

It is a proper name, it isn't over-used and if you like it I'd go for it.

My friend has a Rupert. I wasn't convinced at all at first, but it quickly grew on me.

I absolutely love it!

I'd tentatively suggest considering what sort of circles you tend to move in. If he's likely to grow up in Marlow and go to boarding school, he'll fit right in. If you live in a rough part of Middlesbrough and he's heading for the local comp, perhaps the name might bring additional challenges!

I wouldn’t pick it personally but don’t hate it, I wouldn’t think what an awful name if I met a Rupert, I can’t recall ever meeting one.

You are right - it is a marmite name, so you have to decide whether you like it or not. Personally I'm a big marmite lover, so I say Yes!

(Also - No one charismatic or shaggable has ever been named Rupert. Um, apart from the Handsomest Man in England™)
