What are people’s preferences on these names?

Romy 💯

MummyDummyNow · 25/04/2026 08:02

Nia is a beautiful name.

teaandtoastwouldbenice · 25/04/2026 07:35

I have a teen Ada it doesn’t seem to be considered old lady ish with her peers, it sort of sits with all the Ava/Eva/Isla’s etc

Obviously I love the name but I like Romy too

None meet with my personal adoration.

My order of preference is
Ada 8
Nia 7
Romy 6

Others to consider ..

Rosemary 9
Amy 9

Ayesha 8

I love Ada but I'm biased as I have a DD called Ada. Then Nia, then Romy- I associate it with boys to be honest. Met lots of boy Romys but never a girl.

StampOnTheGround · 25/04/2026 02:47

I like Nia best, then Ada, really not keen on Romy.

TappyGilmore · 25/04/2026 01:31

Can’t stand Ada. I wouldn’t use either of the others due to people I know with those names but both are nice enough.

SnowFrogJelly · 25/04/2026 01:23

Romy

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 25/04/2026 00:29

I love Romy, don’t mind Ada, and really am not keen on Nia - I’ve never heard that name before. (I like Nina though which is what my phone tried to correct it to.)

Enko · 25/04/2026 00:29

I love Nia its my one I didnt get to use as dh doesnt like it. Unlike poster above I do not think Mia is softer that just reminds me of cats screeching and due to me mia is harsh and screechy.

For me Nia is soft and beautiful.

I am not a fan of Romy and while I like Ada ita nowhere near as much as I like Nia

Of those three, Ada is my favourite (although I prefer Ava). Romy is a bit twee and nicknamey, and I much prefer Mia to Nia.

I prefer Mia to Nia.

Nia sounds negative to me - kind of like a version of "No" in the way that "yeah" is a version of yes, maybe a form of "nah."

"Do you want to come to the movie tonight?"
"Niiiiaa"

Mia seems softer.

Romy is originally short for Rosemarie I think, which I think is quite pretty spelled that way.

Rory is lovely.

lottiegarbanzo · 24/04/2026 22:22

Romy

Ada’s ok

I don’t get Nia, it just sounds like a sneery noise, ny-ya, or knee-a. It’s like the sneery poor relation of Mia.

Giraffehaver · 24/04/2026 22:19

Ada. I love it

I don't like the trend for old fashioned names. I don't think a teenager would thank you for being called Ada.

Maybe not if they had been born in the 80s and were a teenager in the late 90s/early 00s, because they would have stood out for having an old-fashioned name at the time.

Adas born now are in fashion. Whereas a teenager called Jennifer, Claire or Michelle would be considered to have an old fashioned name these days. Times change, fashions change. You may not like the current fashion, and that's your prerogative, but the comment about she won't thank you when she's a teenager is a bit ridiculous given that she'll be a teenager in a class with peers called Elsie, Florence, Mabel, Ivy, Stanley, Arthur etc. They'll all see their names as normal for their age group. Their grandparents will have names like Andy, Louise, Steve and Sarah. Those names will feel 'old' to them. It's all relative.

Appreciate the honest feedback! But can I ask, what is awful about Ada?

Nia and Romy are both lovely.

BoleynMemories13 · 24/04/2026 21:26

I only like Ada.

Romy is too whimsical for me and Nia would just sound like someone saying 'Near' around here. Near what? Near where? Mia is ok, but I don't like Nia for this reason.

Bunnyofhope · 24/04/2026 21:23

Ada is better by far.

blushroses6 · 24/04/2026 21:20

I love Romy!

PurpleReindeer2 · 24/04/2026 21:06

Only like Ada from your list

YouRemindMeOfAYoungerMe · 24/04/2026 21:01

Romy

NamingNoNames · 24/04/2026 21:00

Nia but I wouldn't use it because I know dozens of them.

I don't like Ada or Romy.
