We really like this name, however, worried it sounds too girly. What are your thoughts?

Anyone know of any boys with this name?

Lawrie for Scottish roots and Laurie for English.

I have known the name to be used for both men and women but mostly men.

This is helpful, Scottish roots!

Also love it, but do give the full Lawrence/Laurence on bc if you want to eliminate any girlie vibes.

AgnesMcDoo · 16/05/2026 22:57

Love it

Laurence is a girl’s name in France. Laurent for a boy.

I prefer Larry to Laurie as a shortening for Laurence.

Daffodilsinthespring · 16/05/2026 07:13

It’s unisex. Make sure it’s Lawrence on the bc though.

Yes, I know a boy with that name, short for Laurence.

I’ve only ever known one girl with that name. Mother was American and I would have thought that the name, if used for a girl, is a bit American-sounding.

StrawberryStace · 16/05/2026 02:50

It’s cutsie and feminine sounding to me and I wouldn’t think of a masculine male but a gentle, hide in the background male.

Rosegarden98 · 16/05/2026 02:45

I really like Laurie. As others have said it brings to mind the boy from little women so I wouldn't think of it as a girls name.

I love it. First thing that came to mind was Laurie Lee, Cider with Rosie.

That’s why we chose our sons name.

Ive only known boy Laurie’s, I like it! Don’t bother with Laurence though, dont understand giving a longer name you plan to shorten

The reason that people consider giving their child the full name version of any name, is to give the child the maximum choice of which version to use in the future.

That in turn could potentially be important when they choose their career of choice in the future, something that would be impossible to predict at birth!
Their career path could be one that favours full, traditional names.

Bellybellas · 09/05/2026 08:14

Laurence is the feminine version of Laurent

I know several women called Laurence.

emeraldrainbow · 08/05/2026 20:38

Thanks for all the feedback! Very helpful

I’m good friends with a girl called Lori. Have only known one other Laurie, and he was a guy.

thaisweetchill · 25/04/2026 23:01

My nephew is called Laurie and I love it, I see it as a boys name

patooties · 25/04/2026 22:44

Love it. I know two little ones.

EmbarrassmentLovesCompany · 25/04/2026 22:43

I know 2 Laurie's (a M and a F), a Lawrence (m) and Laurence (F - not British).

I woukdn't make any assumptions about M/F or if was short for anything.

Our little boy is Laurie, we love his name and have had so many positive comments. Haven’t met another yet (he’s 3!).
