Nice (long!) list OP. Maybe you'll know when you see her?

These are the ones I particularly like:

May
Heidi
Martha
Penelope - with nn Nell
Maggie - if short for Margaret
Daisy
Violet
Hazel
Cassie - if short for Cassandra
Callie - if short for Callista
Carrie - if short for Caroline

How about:

Cassia
Magda
Rosalind nn Rose

PygmyOwl · 23/04/2026 16:04

Nice list! My favourite are: Connie, Ada, Sylvie and Carrie.

Least favourites are: Mia, Mara, Violet, Nia and Athena.

DinoDances · 23/04/2026 15:59

Like: Heidi, Hazel, Ada, Sylvie, May, Martha, Connie, Elsie, Violet, Nia, Elowen, Athena, Nancy, Anya, Cassie, Callie

Dislike: Penelope, Maggie, Mia, Mara, Daisy, Bessie, Romilly, Saffron, Carrie

If you genuinely can't decide you could look up the popularity and just use the least popular? Or if you share your surname it might change it because some won't go as well.

You have 4 names that are 6 letters ending in ie and starting with C, so seems you really like this sound so could also narrow it down to those 4?

NamingNoNames · 23/04/2026 15:55

My cats' names are on there.

Love:

May - as a first name, not a middle name
Maggie
Elowen
Saffron
Callie

Like:

Heidi
Martha
Mia
Connie - prefer as a nn for Constance
Nia
Hazel
Ada
Romilly
Sylvie
Cassie
Carrie

Dislike:

Penelope
Elsie
Mara
Daisy
Bessie
Violet
Athena
Nancy
Anya

May is my favourite, short, sweet, loveky and unexpected as a first name

Bessie is my least favourite. Too twee, better suited to a pet

Have you considered Tessa / Tess - it feels like it would suit your style of names

It's a big list, could you narrow it down, rank how much you like each one, or put them in categories?

What is the main aim of your post? Are you looking to see which names get the most positive comments and try to narrow them down that way? You've been given quite a lot of new suggestions but if you like a big range it may make the decision even harder.

Perhaps you'll be a 'we'll see her and just know' kind of person.

I would go for the long version of one of the shortenings you’ve chosen-especially if you’re not sure. That gives you-and her!-more choices. So Elisabeth, Constance, Caroline, Margaret..

I like Connie but short for Constance.

NamingNoNames · 22/04/2026 22:05

I love Nia. It means bright and radiant in Welsh, and the ones that I know tend to be very cheery, chatty, and terrifyingly organised in comparison to me!
They are all probably your age or thereabouts.

@ButterYellowHair , Also what is with the sudden surge of people using Elowen with no Welsh heritage?

It's Cornish not Welsh. It has been cropping up a lot probably because names starting with El are popular. I don't see the appeal and the posters suggesting it seem to want to misspell it and mispronounce it.

Nia is Welsh but it was a bit overused in my age group and doesn't seem like a baby name. I like it but know too many to use it.

ladygindiva · 22/04/2026 21:39

ButterYellowHair · 22/04/2026 21:25

Oh, my mistake! Still I doubt everyone using it is Cornish. I’ve just seen it on every list over the last 6 months

You're right, it's definitely in trend

MississippiCroc · 22/04/2026 21:36

May - so overused as a middle name
Heidi - nice but quite popular
Martha - dislike, know several. Feels like it’s just another girl’s name where there will be several of them in her year
Penelope - love but also popular currently
Maggie - can’t stand it
Mia - so common it’s dull. Every Mia is a Mia-Rose or Mia-Grace
Connie - no thoughts
Elsie - again so overused. So many Elsie-Roses or Elsie-Mays.
Mara - I like it and only know one
Daisy - twee and agin so common
Bessie - twee and feels like a dog’s name
Violet - don’t like it at all
Hazel - don’t like it at all
Nia
Elowen
Ada - so popular and I’ve no idea why
Athena
Romilly
Nancy - hate it
Sylvie
Saffron
Anya- love
Cassie - nice
Callie / love
Carrie

Also what is with the sudden surge of people using Elowen with no Welsh heritage?

I think elowen is Cornish ... I'm in Cornwall, it's very popular here ( along with Jago)

Oh, my mistake! Still I doubt everyone using it is Cornish. I’ve just seen it on every list over the last 6 months
