I know a young girl Eileen! I think names have fashions. In 50 years, all the Amelia’s and Olivia’s and all that will be grandma names and people will want something that sounds different.

Is anyone ever called Jane or Mary anymore? Both classic, plain names that were common for hundreds of years and seem to have vanished.

My mother’s friends were Eunice, Beryl and Maureen… can’t see those coming back.

Maureen , why not? Beryl also, it's a precious stone after all.

Eunice I dislike, but if Ethel can come back, why not Eunice?

Thelma hasn't appeared here yet, does that mean it has disappeared forever? Lavinia and Virginia also AWOL. Some florals in - Poppy and Daisy etc, others out e.g. Marguerite and Pansy.

Euphemia was a name used in my Dad's family a few generations ago. Short forms were Effie or Phemie. Those have been used since, but I can't see the long name coming back.

Has Moaning Myrtle killed that name off?

My great-great-aunt was that! My grandmother was fond of her so it's always had nice associations for me.

But I agree Euphemia itself is a different matter.

I'm shocked there are some children with the name Agnes.
It's the name of an older relative of mine. She has always disliked her name & also the nickname Aggie. She was named after an Aunt. The rest of us felt sorry for her and were also relieved, we didnt have that name.

There are lots of Agnes around. I also teach a Dorcas and a Sharon. The French pronunciation of Agnes (Ann-yess) is lovely.

I don't think so.

Gen Z don't tend to use slang like 'fanny' and I don't think Gen Alpha will.

What WILL become dated are the silly posts I've seen on here claiming that Fanny was always seen the way it is now just because Fanny Hill was written, and the ones claiming Enid Blyton called a character Fanny as a deliberate double entendre.

I think nearly all names have the potential to come back don't they? Something might sound downright ugly right now, but that doesn't mean it will feel that way to a future generation.
Fanny might be the exception.

I know 3 girls under 10 called Agnes, 2 are under 5. Also several Peggy's and an Ethel.

Also Hilda and Edna are on their way back, along with Elsie, Nancy (who’d have thought it?), Martha , Jean and Jane.
i think it will be a while before Janice, Jeanette and Lynn make their way back.
