Thoughts on the name Alejandra and how you would pronounce it

I've always loved Spanish names and culture, and this name is particularly good in my opinion so far! Elegant, passionate yet recognisable
Thoughts Not asking if you would name a kid that, just ur opinion on the name and if you know anyone with that name

Also, by the number of people I've heard pronounce jalapeño, well, jalapeno 😂 I'd be very wary!

I’d pronounce it Ale-handra because I speak Spanish. But I think a lot of people in this country won’t know that (and god knows the autocorrect on my phone certainly didn’t 😠) and you’ll end up having to explain and possibly have to field questions such as, ‘oo is she part Spanish’ etc and if you say, ‘er no I just like Spain’, you might be judged as a bit of a nob.

Alexandra is perfectly OK, IMO more beautiful because it’s slightly softer sounding.

I have a friend whose daughter is Alejandra. She's 31 now. The dad is Spanish origin but born in UK. Ale han dra is the way we pronounce it. She says she's had very few problems with it.

Unless you have Spanish heritage and/or live in Spain it seems odd. Alexandra is a lovely name with the conventional spelling

I would pronounce it how you want. I would automatically assume Spanish (or Spanish speaking) heritage and would find it an odd choice if you didn't to be honest.

A Spanish J is like the ch in loch (which is not a K sound, for those who dont know...).

I like the name but think it may imply that you have Spanish/Mexican heritage which could lead to lots of questions from interested people.

You and she will spend a lifetime spelling and pronouncing the name. Which seems odd if there's no Spanish heritage.

How is it pronounced? I would have given it an h sound but I wasn't sure.

I don't mind it but I think it's an odd choice if you don't have any Spanish connections.

As in the J being silent. However, I would check before saying it as I haven’t got a clue!
