Impossible middle debacle or just choose the other name?

We have tried and cannot possibly find a middle name that is of interest with the first name Marigold (who would go by Goldie). Many names flow easily with Goldie, but the hard "D" on Marigold has us a bit stumped. We don't want a simple and expected middle (like June, Kate, Jane, Mae, etc). Any ideas?

My husband says its a sign and we should just choose Clementine, which is our other choice.

I will take any feedback, including impressions of how the name ages, people you know who wear these 2 names, etc.

Clementine would work as the middle name. Actually lots of names of different styles work.

Marigold Clementine
Marigold Joy
Marigold Claire
Marigold Henrietta
Marigold Hannah
Marigold Catherine
Marigold Harper

Marigold Clementine Jones
Goldie Clementine Jones

Use both!

I think it needs a two syllable middle:

Marigold Heidi
Marigold Phoebe
Marigold Bonnie
Marigold Constance
Marigold Xanthe
Marigold Emma
Marigold Lucy
Marigold Alice
Marigold Hannah
Marigold Summer
Marigold Tessa
Marigold Peggy
Marigold Sarah

Another ‘M’ name also works.

Marigold Marie
Marigold Mae
Marigold Mary
Marigold Mercy
Marigold Martha
etc

I nearly suggested Meadow….

Marigold Elizabeth. You need a middle name starting with a vowel.

Why not just Goldie?

Because she’s a human being, not a labrador? Fine as shortening, if you like that sort of thing, but not as a full name.

Happytaytos · 02/04/2026 19:19

Pre choosing goldie as a nn but not using it feels odd. I understand organically grown names but they're so different, when do you expect her to use Marigold?

Middle names:
Elizabeth
Penny
Victoria
Eliza
Sian
Ava
Ingrid
Olivia
Indiana
Ottilie

I've always loved Clementine but you should go for your first choice.
If I had my child-naming time again I'd go back into my family tree to find a middle name.

My husband positively adores Clementine! It's not in a harsh second place or anything. I just would like to find a pretty flow for whichever name we pick, both first and middle.

Marigold Clementine sounds lovely as do;
Marigold Francesca
Marigold Elizabeth
Marigold Dawn
Marigold Teresa
Marigold Athena

I'm struggling to see why the d at the end of Marigold is so problematic.

I think both Marigold and Clementine are lovely names.

Well it is quite nice to hear you can go more fanciful that I had originally thought and it can work. :)

Your middle name choices are not ' expected', I've never met a Marigold June, Jane, Mae or Kate tbh

Marigold Elizabeth. You need a middle name starting with a vowel.

Why not just Goldie?

We prefer a formal first name and Goldie as a first feels rather nickname-style for our tastes.

I love them both OP! Might depend on your surname but I like middle names that start with a vowel with both of these. Eg Marigold Elizabeth or Clementine Emilia. Tricky choice for you!

Hedjwitch · 02/04/2026 19:08

Prefer Clementine but possible middles for Marigold could be
Esther
Esme
Olive/Olivia
Imagen
Agnes

Just don’t have a middle name? Plenty of people don’t have one, if you choosing one for the sake of having one, and can’t find one that suits, it might be better off not having one at all.

I’d also not nickname her a popular dog name tbh
