Posting for a friend who is Welsh but lives in England at the moment.

Or so people have other favourite Welsh names?

I have a Carys in England which is always pronounced right. My original first choice was Ffion but it is pronounced the same as anus/arse in French so I ruled that out given we travel to France a bit!

I speak good French and can’t think of any French term for anus or arse that at all resembles Ffion.

@garlictwist , I don't think they're ugly but I think a lot of them sound ugly anglicised.

I can say this because I am Welsh but so many Welsh names are very ugly. I would avoid. Mabli at a push.

Elen is the safest bet in terms of pronunciation. I don’t like Mabli Mai. I prefer Mali to Mabli.

Tesni Ffion is my favourite. I also like Mabli, but not Mabli Mai, and Mabli Elon doesn't flow well. Mabli Ffion is lovely.

I've heard of so many 'Mabli's recently, so my worry would be that maybe it will become a little too 'popular?' Love Tesni and Elen, or maybe Erin or Eleri.

The “a” in Mai is pronounced like the ‘a’ in “anchor”, but the rest is pronounced the same.

I’ve got a Ffion in England and I’ve been really surprised how many people have struggled with it. We’re not that far away from Wales either! Only 30 mins from the bridge!
