Is it that bad? I really like it, and I've tried it on a few people and they've seemed to like it too. I know of a 3 year old one and she suits it and gets called Bloss. My DH likes it but thinks it's too risky as it's so girly and a bit marmite so she might not like it. I personally don't think it sounds more girly than Rosie, Poppy etc which are all popular, but I appreciate it is more unusual. I don't really care about the TV series, I didnt see it and kids these days won't know it.

It really is such a marmite name! People either love it or think it's borderline cruelty.
I'm trying to imagine if I'd like to be called it. I think it would just be my name and I wouldn't think much of it.

Especially the poster with the very unusual middle names that's worried I might like them. That tickled me.
I'm due in 6 weeks, so a spring baby. I totally get why people don't like it, but I can't get past it. I can't quite wipe it off the list just yet. Our surname is a short, quite masculine name. So sounds fine with Blossom.
Daphne is on our list, my DH likes Daisy.

@DramaAlpaca baby will be half Irish, and 2 out of 3 siblings have Irish names.

I think I need a rethink. Some other names on our list:

Scarlet
Elowen (although we both pronounce differently!)
Fiadh
Raya
Flora
Posy
Francesca (totally different but both like Frankie.
I like Pearl and Primrose but DH hates them.
I'm going to work through some of your suggestions now.

I like Flora and Posy (think it "carries" better than Blossom) and Francesca and LOVE Primrose. Again, that has more poise than Blossom I think.

Flora is better if you definitely want floral. Posy is adorable but better as a nickname perhaps, so maybe a shortening for Persephone? Willow and Iris are more elegant floral names.

I quite like Bloss and think it's inevitable, even if we don't use it ourselves.
It's the issue round whether it works for an adult woman that concerns me. But there are so many flowery names now, that lots of judges and doctors and lawyers etc will be called Daisy and Willow and Poppy.
I also don't like the idea that feminine names are weak names. I think you can still kick ass as a Blossom.
Thanks for the opinions so far, keep 'em coming. I think it might end up being crossed off as I can't shake the doubts.

I do think it is pretty, but personally even Daisy. Poppy etc I find a bit soft as a first name - though Rose (not Rosie) has a certain gravitas. But I don't think Blossom does: it's a fluffy, delicate flower and has that feel.

But it is sweet, so why not as a nn? NNs don't have to link to a FN.

I would call my child Blossom
And the Tele show would just be an added bonus on top!
But I love the name

I think Blossom is a pretty name.
Just like a previous poster mentioned, it makes me think of the American TV series "Blossom" (1990-95).

It’s a horrible name. I’d be appalled at having that as my name. Same as Petal. Give the name to a pet poodle if you must.

Better Options (imo):

Marigold
Primrose (shame your dh hates it. I think it was in The Darling Buds of May TV series, I think it’s lovely).
Tansy
Leilani
Marilla

I quite like Blossom, I suggested it when we got a puppy but DH wouldn’t even consider it then, he doesn’t like anything like that, considers it to be too ‘wet’, so I’d have had no chance for DD. She is an Iris. Similarly I also like Primrose, Rosa, Fern, April, Tulip, Summer, May.

If you absolutely love Blossom, go for it. If you’re wavering, consider saving for a middle name. Very cute especially for a spring baby.

I really like out there names (my own kids' names would probably be considered as borderline child abuse by most Mners), but I draw the line at Blossom. Cute for a little girl, but a nightmare for a woman trying to be taken seriously while climbing the corporate ladder.

There was a Blossom Willoughby at the Chalet School. Sporty, a bit scatterbrained, overall a nice girl.

Also a Lavender. Got off to a bad start, but turned out ok in the end.

Posy Fossil was a talented dancer. (Ballet Shoes)

I work in a very male dominated industry and would hate this name. In my early days, some of the old men would call me that anyway! ‘Alwite Blossom’ (usually said with a cockney accent)!
