(Me again! We're really struggling with this upcoming baby's name! Thanks in advance!) What does the name Julius bring to mind? We prefer it to Julian as it's less common and feels a bit stronger to me.

Depending on your age, I think of Arnold Schwarzeneggers character from the film Twins, but I'm in my 40s, I guess the younger generations won't make the connection. That aside I'm not really keen on the name but then it's not my dc so each to their own.

This 100% even ahead of Caesar - i can hear him saying it with the accent now.

I don't think it flows naturally as a nn and I actually don't like it.

I get the whole Jude Law thing, but he is actually getting to be quite an old man now, and to me it is a 60-something female librarian who feels Judith sounds a bit stiff and Jude hints nicely at her wild side (which is occasionally go to the chipped on Friday night wearing no underpants under her tweed skirt.

But you get the idea. It's a slightly lame attempt to loosen up a rather prim ladies name to me.

Or it's Jude the Obscure, who always makes me feel a bit ground down by the world.

I find Julian wet.
i grew up with a Julius who was seen as glamorous as he was in a film. Hadn’t ever associated him with Caesar, probably as he was black.

I quite like it.

Obviously it has Caesar connotations, and somehow Augustus seems a bit less pompous because the name has been used more, whereas Julian tends to have been used instead of Julius.

BUT I like it, it is strong and unusual without being yoonique, and I prefer it to Jude, which brings to mind all the lugubrious misery of Hardy, Jules which is just ... ick, and Julian, which is nice enough, but does slightly conjure up for me a man who fastidiously irons his underpants.

I think, with a bit of a swagger, he could pull off Julius nicely.

It's a solid and very easy name to say and write yet not very common.

It makes me think of Julius Caesar. There is a Julius at my daughter’s nursery. I haven’t heard his name being shortened. I think the name is fine. I prefer it to Julian, which I really don’t like.

I had a brilliant guy called Julius in my team a few years ago, he was great at his job and a nice person, so positive associations for me!
