What impressions do you have of the baby name Julius?

(Me again! We're really struggling with this upcoming baby's name! Thanks in advance!)
What does the name Julius bring to mind? We prefer it to Julian as it's less common and feels a bit stronger to me.

I've nannied a Julius (and have a friend with an Augustus if you want opinions on that!) and firstly he loved his name, doing the Romans in y4 was quite amusing because his friends called him Julius Caesar for a full term (which he liked a lot!) (it then got shortened to J.C...then they'd forgotten in the new term!) he got called Julie once in year 6, retaliated with a swipe at the other kids name and that was that.

And in contrast, his brother Harry was called Harry Potter, potter or the boy who lived for ALOT of primary school which he also wasn't bothered about but kids will find something to say about ANY name if they want tbh. Hell I've nannied a Harrison who was called Morrisons for 2 years (because you could see one from the school playground 😂)

Secondary school was no problem, there's SO many different names these days that it wasn't like his name stuck out at all!

So basically, would I call my child it? No, purely because it sounds daft with my surname! But it's a strong name, inoffensive and you like it!

Caesar, dog harness - I see lots of them when I'm walking ChenDog - and parents who are desperate to give their child a youneeq name rather than one they simply love and don't care what other people think.

I think Julian is horrible, Julius wouldn't be my choice but it is definitely better than Julian. It makes me think Caesar just like most people I expect.

I like it alot.

I imagine a little boy who is a bit cheeky and loves speeding around on his bike and is friendly with all the neighbours.

Then he'll grow into a morally strong man who treats others right but is no push over and has a love of winter sports and writing code.

However, as per a PP, my dog’s harness has “Julius” written on it. Various people I’ve got chatting to have presumed it’s his name, so I do kind of think of it as being a dog’s name!

I think it’s too much, far too strong a name for the vast majority of boys and men to live up to. The average male won’t be suited to this name.

I think of Julian and Julius as being similar.

Use Julius if you prefer it.

It is handsome and Julius will not be confused with Julianne.

He will likely be called Big Julie or Jules - both great.
I would have a C or a P name for his second name.

JC has a powerful association and JP is law abiding.

I quite like, prefer Julian to be honest but I don’t like Jules or Julie so that would put me off.

I dislike Julian but quite like Julius - Michael Boatman in The Good Fight is what comes to my mind though, so slightly swayed by that.

Yes! Julius Cain! Such a good show.

I've also recently read A Legacy by Sybille Bedford, which had a major character called Julius. That Julius was a feckless aristocrat who wandered aimlessly around Europe and kept chimpanzees.

I guess I know of so few Juliuses that I don't really have a clear picture of what a Julius would be. I like it better than Augustus.

Julius is very pretentious, quite Tarquin vibes. Julian is just so dated IMO. Reminds me of a 60 year old slightly camp, high end estate agent.
