What are your thoughts on these 2 names for a girl please? Any other similar ideas? I like that they are short and simple, but not too common and feel like they would work for all ages.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

@Sweetcorn100 , where on earth do you live that people would struggle with Minna? (Answer: MNland)

@Samiloff , Minna doesn't sound like Moaner.

I didn’t say Minna sounded like Moaner, I said it made me think of it. I think if I’d been called Minna I would have been teased unmercifully as a child by being called Moaner by older siblings whenever I cried etc.

I’ve never heard of Fenna and don’t like it. I’ve heard of Minna but don’t like it - makes me think of Moaner (someone always moaning). Sorry.

Sweetcorn100 · 10/03/2026 11:13

Mina Fenn

Sweetcorn100 · 10/03/2026 11:12

I dislike Fenna but Mina is cute (but spelt with one n) depending where you live she may get how do you pronounce that with Minna

Calliopespa · 10/03/2026 08:26

The more I have seen these names - Minna and Fenna - sitting on this thread, the more I think that possibly the combination of them (both with nna ending) was what has partly put people off.

I mean Hanna and Anna are well-known but sound a bit Tweedle-dum and Tweedle-dee.

I think each sounds better without being considered together with the other.

Catcatcatcatcat · 10/03/2026 06:54

I don’t like either, sorry.

TurnipsAndParsnips · 10/03/2026 06:48

Minna is one of my family names. It’s German. If you like Minna and Fenna, how about Menna, which I think is Welsh?

disturbia · 10/03/2026 06:06

They sound more like names for pet goldfish

They are normal European names. That's like saying Sarah or George are fucking terrible names that people should walk away from and choose something more normal.

Pettenell · 10/03/2026 05:01

I like both names. Possibly Minna as the favourite. I also like some others suggested here, Greta and Nella. Another I like is Brenna,

TheBirdintheCave · 09/03/2026 23:25

Fenna is so pretty! 🤩 Not a fan of Minna but that’s just personal taste.

RegalDiamondMonster · 09/03/2026 23:01

I prefer Minna. Both fine though. Similar style maybe to Willa?

Alpacajigsaw · 09/03/2026 22:43

I’m reading a book with a character called Fen/na just now. Never heard it before.

They are OK names but not what I’d pick. I think you may need to be OK with Fen or Min.

I also know someone with surname Fenner so Fenna reminds me of that

Giraffehaver · 09/03/2026 22:37

Sorry. Didn't finish. Minna might be said as Mina and I know quite a few. Fenna is lovely

Giraffehaver · 09/03/2026 22:32

I really like Fenna. Sounds cool with a nod to nature. Know a fair few Minas

Is it Minna Harker In Dracula (might be Mina though but like either).

Mina

It appears some posters here have a very small frame of reference.

Just because you have never heard these names doesn't mean they're not 'normal'. There's a big, wide world out there.

Yeah I'm bemused by some of these reactions to names that, all things considered, are inoffensive. I do wish the MN names forum was a bit more varied - seeing countless posts suggesting names like Arthur and Elizabeth gets old quick.

TheWildZebra · 09/03/2026 20:44

They sounds like a contraceptive pill…

CheddarCheeseAndCrispSandwich · 09/03/2026 20:40

Neither…both sounds like childish names for vagina to me…I teach primary, and some of the things children call their genitalia are bonkers!

Fenna and Minna sound like these things to me…sorry! 🤦‍♀️🥹

Funniest thing I've seen on MN today 😂
Perhaps a bit much though.

notmuchtoit · 09/03/2026 20:22

Wrong thread.

Jadzya · 09/03/2026 20:12

I'm not wild about either sorry OP. Willow?

MrsFaustus · 09/03/2026 20:10

NamingNoNames · 09/03/2026 20:00

I think Wenna could stand alone as a name, but the one I know has a longer Welsh name. Saint Wenna - Wikipedia
