Grace as a first name

Just read the 'Rose as a middle name' thread and Grace gets a lot of collateral heat. I'm contemplating it as first name for my first (and likely only) child. Is it less 'meh' as a first name?

The name is fine, nothing awful about it but it’s a bit wishy washy for me. If you like it, stick to it! As long as you like it , it really doesn’t matter what others think. Asking people’s options on names will always make one think.

I'm not against names that are well-liked, and I agree Grace is, but I have a thing of really not liking names beginning with a hard "G": Gerda, Grace, Gavin etc

I just don't like the sound and for some reason that hard G coming at the start of a one syllable name creates quite a heavy sound that to me is anything but graceful. It sounds like pans banging together to me!

Eta much prefer Rose!

But I wouldn't let the popularity alone put you off.

Is it less 'meh' as a first name? Definitely.
Some friends have an adult daughter called Grace and she's graceful and gracious.

Grace is a gorgeous name and so is Rose. I've known lovely people with these names and cannot understand why there is so much antipathy against them on MN.

I like Grace, it's very sweet and quite timeless. On the theme of virtue names I can't stand Hope because every one I've ever met there's been a tragic backstory for why they were named that and it's always felt like saddling the child with generational trauma from birth!
