How do you pronounce Loinnir?

I think it’s like what I would say if I saw something written Lunna. But I’m not an Irish speaker.

According to Google translate, eglantine is briar rose....

It's musk rose. Honeysuckle is woodbine. Both mentioned by Oberon in a lovely, dreamy passage.

Woodbine, sweet musk rose and eglantine are all mentioned so I don't think so.

My name is on your list. I’ve never considered it a beautiful name (I go by a shortened version of it now as I really didn’t like it growing up), but seeing someone say it’s beautiful has made me smile.

Honeysuckle is chèvrefeuille, no?

When I did my French degree, I'm sure I learned that eglantine means honeysuckle

I heard the name Miriama once and I love it. But not Miriam. The first for me is ethereal but the second quite earthy and blunt. Which seems bizarre when the only difference is an 'a' on the end!

I feel like that about Ann and Anna - they conjure up completely different characters in my mind.

keepmeright · 14/03/2026 13:13

Isla, Bonnie, Meadow, Effie are my favourite girls names. I don't love any boys names 😂

There’s a Saint Columba.

There is (male). But the Corsican Columba would be patron saint of toxic femininity.

I've never met a Colomba. The closest I've known is somebody who had the portrait of Colomba, as seen on beer cans of the beverage bearing the same name - tattoo'ed on his arm.

He was sort of Marseille/Algerian though.

I wouldn't put her down as a role model, or 'beautiful on the inside'!

Almakarlinsghost · 06/03/2026 12:18

Woodbine also means honeysuckle, but seems to have fallen out of use even for the plant - wonder why? 😃
I can't see that one taking off as a name anytime soon...

Eglantine is a wild rose I think.

DancingOctopus · 12/03/2026 17:53

I once met someone called Rosebud.
A beautiful name.
She wasn't very nice, which was a shame.

wizzler · 07/03/2026 07:23

My gm was Rosannah. She had a really hard life, was born out of wedlock ( as they said in those days) , her mother was in service and paid for someone to adopt my Gm. All very Downton Abbey. My gm worked so hard all her life. She was known as Rose but I love that her full name seems glamorous and elegant and hopeful

Pinkissmart · 07/03/2026 00:54

I love Mayanne

OneNewEagle · 07/03/2026 00:45

My name, my sisters name and my mums name have been mentioned. Also my sons middle name and my little cats name 🥰

dailydaffs · 06/03/2026 23:57

I love Persephone & Leda - if I was naming my DDs now (I am ancient) I would definitely go for these,
