Hello,

Expecting our first baby in a few weeks and would love suggestions for names. Short list so far is:

Boys -

Wilfred (Wilf) - My top one but partner isn't as keen
Edward
William
James

Girls -

Harriet - my partner not too sure again
Georgina (Georgie or GiGi)
Alice
Sophie
Audrey
Violet (love this name but partner has vetoed it but just so you have a sense of names that I like)

We like quite traditional names, not fussed about popularity. Baby's surname will begin with an L and is two syllables and we are not keen on alliterarion (which is a shame as Laurence nn Laurie is a name I have always loved). Middle name for a boy will be Timothy. For a girl, undecided but maybe Eve, Dorothy or Diane depending on which first name we go for (all meaningful to us).

Thank you!!

Love Timothy and Dorothy the most - as first names.

Love the name Audrey, if I had a girl it would be named Audrey or Gwen.

Georgina with Gigi as a nn I love.

Wilfred isn’t great, yet Wilf is super cute!

But they’re all nice names!

I'd just stick to your shortlist op: it's an excellent list.

The only one I'm not fond of is Audrey, and Georgina is not as nice as Georgiana or Georgia imo, particularly as I really don't like Gina.

But other than that, I think they are all lovely. Sophie is quite heavily used atm; the others might be fresher.

I like Timothy as a second name. It would also be an attractive first name. Tim is strong.
Your three boy names sound great:

Edward Timothy 10
James Timothy 10
William Timothy 9
Timothy Edward 10

Harriet, Georgina, Alice, Sophie and Audrey are all gorgeous.
Others .. Rosemary, Alison, Eliza, Claire, Susanna

Georgina Eve
Alice Dorothy
Harriet Eve
Sophie Dianne
Audrey Georgina
Rosemary Eve
Eliza Dorothy
Claire Dorothy
Susanna Dorothy

In order: James, Edward, William, Wilfred (Wilf) . All the names will be shortened. Do you like the diminutives?
Suggestions: George, Henry, Harry, Richard, Charles, Nicholas

Harriet - like it and Hattie
Georgina - like it but GiGi is awful
Alice - love it
Sophie - like it but Sophia/Sofia is too popular
Audrey - don't like it. Has a miserable look and sound.
Violet - not keen

LemonBelly · 25/02/2026 09:45

Alice is a lovely classic name, what about Alice Evelyn Lxxx?

I like Edward and James best of your boys’ choices, and Georgina or Alice from your girls’ names, but they’re all lovely!
