I don’t think my baby will ever have a name

Please help!

I have been a long time lurker but have signed up for some help. My baby boy is due in 6 weeks and we have no names. I have scrolled through thousands of names and I think they are now all becoming meaningless but it’s making me
panic about naming our little boy. Any names I do like, DH doesn’t and vice versa. We both want a name we both like.

DH likes Apollo and Dawson???
I like Jasper, Felix and August.
Both would like something less common (I know my choices are more popular at the moment but just giving an idea of sound / style I like)

Any suggestions are welcome - we probably won’t use the names I’ve given as we don’t agree on them but opinions on those welcome
too.

Thank you

Panic not! My DC2 was not registered until the last possible day (?6 weeks after birth) to avoid her being for ever ‘Female child Surname’. All the professionals nagged us to get a move on. Eventually one name popped up that was perfect!!

@NiceforthedayChrist on a bike! You are very rigid on month names 🤣🤣🤣

not sure your comments were so offensive they needed to be removed though 🤔

You don't have to have a name picked our before they are born OP.

We had a short list of 3 for each of our DSs - 1 favourite from each of us and 1 we agreed we both liked but wasn't our favourite. We then decided which one suited them best.

DS1 it was my DHs favourite which suited him best.
DS2 it was my favourite which suited him best.

Some Scottish boys names are pretty uncommon elsewhere. Lachlan, Campbell, Murray, Innes and Torin for example.

Never had a boys name we could agree on. Thankfully wanted girls and got them. Not sure what would have happened if we had boys.

Thank you for all the useful comments and suggestions. I’ll have a look through them all properly.

I find it slightly amusing that August had a bad reception and not Apollo (sorry to anyone with a little Apollo) I would have thought that was the ‘bravest’ choice of them all!

And to the lady expecting a little August, I think it’s a great name.

You don’t have to pick the name because they are born during that month.

i know a few Aprils and Mays that aren’t born in those months.

summitfever · 20/02/2026 14:31

If I had a boy I’d call him Harris

You need to stop panicking.

1/ You can decide when he is here. You don’t need to agree now. Your DH is likely to agree to anything you want once he has seen you push a baby out. It has magic powers!

2/ It seems hugely important at the moment but in the grand scheme of things it actually isn’t. DD’s was one I liked a lot but wasn’t my number 1 initially. But once she arrived it felt right. It’s still not my most favourite name in the world but it absolutely is the right name for her if that makes any sense. I didn’t know that until she was in my arms and I actually said it.

All will be well.

I like Felix.

August means respected or impressive, and the month was named after Augustus, not the other way around.

It is a word and name in its own right and needn't have anything to do with the month.
