Help needed to narrow down girls names

Septesun · 15/02/2026 09:01

hello,
First Baby due in September. Have the boys name sorted but have the longest list of girls names 🫠 and can’t narrow it down. I’m sure it’ll change lots before due date. However wanted to get a feel for your favourite.

ps this is the narrowed down version

thank you x

Autumn is lovely, and I am bucking the trend hear and liking Harper and also Aria. I know a lot of Siennas so that might put me off a bit.

Genuine question so why comment? Just to have some sort of vitriol? I don’t see the thought process….i ask which is you fav to choose from…your response I don’t like any of them. I’m sure I would dislike your taste because I’m guessing you go for dull run of the mill names but I wouldn’t comment because I realise our tastes are so different

Edited

Why ask for opinions if you only want affirmation? They aren’t my choice, I think they will date rapidly but your choice.
If it’s a season name you are after how about
Misty
Harvest
Berry
Or classical Demeter (Greek goddess of the harvest or Ceres (Roman version)

DH just suggested Combine but I don’t think he’s serious 😂

ToadRage · 16/02/2026 22:39

I voted Summer, I like Aria a bit but dislike all the others.

Flukingflukes · 16/02/2026 22:38

I like Autumn best. ❤️

sparklyblueberry2 · 16/02/2026 22:36

They are all nice but also really common. In my child’s year there are multiple of each name. Obviously could be different by the time your child is school age.

MJFEB2026 · 16/02/2026 22:33

I voted Harper but also like Summer. Which is funny as I really disliked the name Harper when the Beckhams used it and I had Summer as a potential future girls name at the time! Just goes to show that tastes can change 😊😊

Firebird83 · 16/02/2026 22:25

Autumn is ok. The rest aren’t great, sorry.

Rockyhorrors · 16/02/2026 13:52

I think they’re all rather naff

Neveranynamesleft · 16/02/2026 10:32

OP you can't win on here....you'll either be told the name is too boring/old fashioned or too far out wacky. It really is your own personal choice. Having said that, don't forget about the surname it will be put against, any short variation it could get that you may not like and also initials.

PumpkinsAndCoconuts · 16/02/2026 10:25

congratulations! My favourites are:

  1. Sienna
  2. Aria
  3. Autumn and Summer

(In that order. Sienna is my favourite, closely followed by Aria.)

BoleynMemories13 · 15/02/2026 17:01

None of them are to my personal taste. However, my preference would be for Summer, which I think is quite a pleasant sound and it naturally reminds people of sunshine and warmth.

Surely people telling you their preference out of a list of names which aren't actually to their own taste is actually helpful? People saying "I love them all" won't help you to make a decision at all. If you only want people who like some of these names to comment, you're really limiting yourself in terms of honest feedback. Gaging opinions from a range of people gives you a much better idea of how these names will be perceived by Joe public (who won't all share your taste in names).

As other people have already pointed out, this is quite a 'run of the mill' list by a lot of people's standards. Harper, Sienna and Aria in particular are ten a penny around me. Darcie too actually, but with various different spellings (Darcie, Darcy, Darcey) and often hypenated with Rose or May/Mae.

IntoASong · 15/02/2026 16:47

Not keen on any but Darcie the nicest imo. You’ve got ages yet… 7 months!

NamingNoNames · 15/02/2026 16:44

I don't either. They're not my taste but the only one I dislike is Darcie.

You're in the baby names section. You are going to get opinions. I don't have any vitriol about the names.

NamingNoNames · 15/02/2026 16:37

@Septesun , try each name with the surname.
Check that the combination sounds OK. 'Google' the name too.
e.g. Harper Adams, Summer Reeve, Sienna Millar etc

If the surname starts with a vowel, imagine it with the eliding r. e.g. Anna Hack sounding like Annar 'Ack (anorak) , Aria Eddy (are ya ready)

staringatthesun · 15/02/2026 16:12

I love Sienna, but Autumn would be a close second for me.

In fairness, it is reasonable to assume that people posting in 'Baby Names' haven't yet decided, or want to get a feel for "what people, in general think of the names we are thinking of".

So, if people are only 'allowed' to give their opinions if they love the names, you then get a completely skewed feeling about what people think. A bit like if you just ask a couple of people you know, who share your tastes.

Ultimately, it doesn't matter if strangers on the internet like or don't like your choice of name, but there must be some sort of need for reassurance, or why would people be asking ?

NamingNoNames · 15/02/2026 14:47

@Septesun , you might know already but you can use the ONS baby name page or Darkgreener to see how popular names are.
Baby names in England and Wales: 2024 - Office for National Statistics

Bear in mind that some names have several spellings (Darcie, Darcey, Darcy, Darci, Darcee, Darcie-May etc) and the data for each spelling is treated separately

BigFishLittleFishCardboardBoxes · 15/02/2026 14:35

They’re all run of the mill names!

How many more Darcie-Mais do we need? Or Sienna-Rose/Grace.

I like Summer.

To be fair OP, your list is run of the mill. All of those names feature in my kids’ schools. Doesn’t mean they’re not nice. But when naming their first child people often don’t know many kids and think their name choices are pleasantly unusual, so just pointing that out! Hence the common story of people getting a shock once they go to baby groups and realising 3 other families also thought the name River was unique but now there are 4 Rivers in one baby sensory class 😁

NamingNoNames · 15/02/2026 13:05

Why would it need to be shortened to anything ? Such an odd comment.
I didn't say it needed to be shortened but names generally do get shortened. The weirdest ones I've heard have to be Ian and Mia. (Yes really!)

500daysofspring · 15/02/2026 12:19

Autumn is beautiful. I also like Sienna but I think the others are perhaps a little bit dated!

twilightermummy · 15/02/2026 12:12

I voted for Aria but love Autumn and like Sienna also.
I agree that Harper is too Beckhamy.
Congrats by the way 😊 A little girl is a blessing 🙏🏽

SidekickSylvia · 15/02/2026 12:11

They're all lovely names, my favourites are Sienna and Autumn. Harper is not as soft sounding as all of the others, but still a nice name.

Your list is of dull run-of-the-mill names!
