Busby's was the name of the nightclub in Bristol where I met DH in the late 1980s.

It's only 1930's insofar as the choreographer Busby Berkeley goes. I haven't heard of anyone else called it either then or since - so it's not even passe. It wouldn't be so bad if your friend was a famous pop star or footballer as they're better able to get away with quirky (daft) names. Alternatively, it would be fine if she was having a labrador. Otherwise no.

I quite like it! Busby and Trilby are both hats but both named after people/characters. I’d expect the parents to be fans of either Man Utd or golden age of Hollywood musicals. I certainly don’t think it’s any worse than other surnames as first names, although the Wheels on the Bus era might be a bit trying for the wee lamb.

Remember Mumsnet only has an approved list of about 20 names.

Short, easy to spell and pronounce, cute nickname opportunities.

It’s sufficiently unusual people will probably never have met one or heard of it, which can be a challenge for the owner.

No one would bat an eyelid at this in my area.
