We are trying to decide between Isadora or Beatrice?

If we go with the former, she would be known as Dora or Isa because we are less keen on ‘Issy’.

Would love to hear thoughts!

When I read the thread title before clicking on it I immediately thought ‘Beatrice’ ! So that’s definitely my vote

Come again?

Isadora- that's makeup right? Quite cheap makeup if I remember it correctly- used it in my teens. No, not a strong name.

Alexandra, Elisabeth, Agatha, Ava, Vilma, Esther are some strong names.

Oneforallandallforone · 06/02/2026 20:51

I don't think either name is strong.

I guess it depends where you are from though.

For me, names like Elizabeth, Mary, Alice, Margaret, Catherine are strong sounding names.

DC2 has a friend called Isadora who is Izzy by her own choice, despite her parents nickname for her being Dory. So if you really don’t like Izzy then I’d bear that in mind.
I think both names are lovely but as others said they’re not what I think of as strong names.

NamingNoNames · 06/02/2026 20:41

Neither of them sounds strong. I much prefer Beatrice.
I don't like Isa or Dora.

CurlewKate · 06/02/2026 20:40

Whatever you do, don’t decide to give her a boy’s name because you think it’s “strong”!. It’s not the name that will make her strong anyway. It’s how you bring her up. Can I suggest Juno?

Thewalrusandthecarpenter · 06/02/2026 20:38

Isadora is unusual and nice - not sure about strong. I have a Miranda and I think that’s quite a strong name.

mathanxiety · 06/02/2026 20:36

I'd choose Isadora. Beatrice is a little tame. I think Beatrix has a bit more spunk.

I'd use Izza as the nickname. It's the NN of an Isabella that I know.

Suggestions:
Theodosia
Saskia
Ruth
Elspeth
Greta
Leonora

Isadora is gorgeous.

I've always been surprised it never became more popular with all the Isabels around.
Dora is a lovely shortening too.

Beatrice is also lovely.

I think they are both quite 'grand' names which suggests strength. Or presence.

bells456 · 06/02/2026 20:30

Both quite nice. I’d be more pleasantly surprised to meet an Isadora though.

Hayley1256 · 06/02/2026 20:28

I think these are more cute than strong.

When I think of strong names I think of:

Elizabeth
Grace
Eden
Kate
Catherine
Lilith
Claudia
Celia

CheddarCheeseAndCrispSandwich · 06/02/2026 20:24

Beatrice is lovely. Isadora less so (to my ears).

LeedsZebra90 · 06/02/2026 20:21

They aren't what I would view as strong names - but much prefer Beatrice.

NoKnickerElastic · 06/02/2026 20:19

I wouldn't say either of these names are "strong" tbh
