Im having twins, two girls and were thinking Clementine Catherine and Olive Odette. We like the matching fruit names, and Odette and Clementine both have French origin. Are they okay names?

Oh I don’t think they’re too matchy at all.

Like most people, I hate twin names which are clearly a matching pair, but yours aren’t. Obviously the names aren’t wildly different in terms of style, but that’s because you’re picking names you like.

All the Clementines I’ve ever known have been Clemmie (which I love). Clemmie and Olive sound perfectly nice together and separately.

JuliettaCaeser · 01/02/2026 15:09

The name Clementine far predates the fruit. The fruit was named after a man called Clement.

user1492757084 · 01/02/2026 13:53

The fruit connection could cause problems.
Mandarins are delicious to children but Olives, not so much.

Clementine Catherine and..

Cherry Chelsea
Blueberry Bramble
Strawberry Sue
Lychee Leonor
Melony Maude
Grape Genevieve
Anjou Alanna
Melina May
Mirabelle Mietta
Figgy Fiona

The "some reason" is that too many names starting in O together sounds like someone hurriedly gulping down the last of their cup of tea.

Hahaha this is spot on

G00dnightJimBob · 31/01/2026 16:24

Olive is such an ugly name

Not sure why so many people think "clammy" for Clementine, but no-one has said they think of "odour" for Odette! Must be just me - I don't think "clammy" at all for Clementine.

I think its for Clemmie, not Clementine.

Clemmie does sound like Clammy. And Odette does sound a little bit like a good brand name for a bathroom deodoriser spray. But I think it's ok.

If you like the French feel, what about Manon op? I think Clementine and Manon sound nice together.

I was dreaming of Popeye last night..thanks 🤣I think Olive Oyl probably isn’t as well known to the younger generations…or Olive from On the Buses…probably coloured my opinion , being older and thinking of the problems it would have caused at school with nicknames ..especially cartoon Olive. But you still get the Olive Oil , jokes about virgins and late pressings come to mind…you can tell I had a lot of school years to contend with 🤣 it sounds as old as Clementine, but then old names come back

🎶Oh my darling , oh my darling, oh my darling , Clementine, you are lost and gone forever, dreadful sorry, Clementine 🎵

She has a song already

And ‘Clementine’ by Mark Owen of Take That!

Katherine spelt with a K is my middle name

My 8 year old daughter is called Catherine.

You just can’t go wrong with this name.

Olive is a nice name (Dd has a friend called Olive, and I think I like it because of that).

But it doesn’t have the flouncy elegance of Clementine.

I think alliteration is fine, I don’t like the matchy fruit theme.

I would give one twin both fruit names - Olive Clementine or Clementine Olive.

And Catherine Odette or Odette Catherine for the other.

I’d avoid giving them identical initials, so either Olive and Catherine, or Clementine and Odette.

Catherine Odette sounds good makes me think of a superstar actress its very elegant

Mumtryingtolivethedream · 31/01/2026 14:12

You'll just get clem or clemmie and olly or liv so long as you're prepared for them to be shortened by absolutely everyone the thats fine

Mum311023 · 31/01/2026 12:19

Catherine is a beautiful name it's also an Irish name is think. that's my middle name. Odette that sounds like a African name but it's beautiful. Clementine that's cute.

Blueyrocks · 30/01/2026 13:26

I think they're really pretty names. If it was me, I'd call them Odette Olive and Clementine Catherine, or Odette Catherine and Clementine Olivia, because I think it's a shame to have the name Odette tucked away as a middle name. But any combo is gorgeous. Just, I'd avoid Clementine Olive, as that's pretty fruity 😂Clemmie and Odette. Such lovely names 😊

I was going to say the same thing. Odette is far too pretty to come second to the name Olive.

pouletvous · 31/01/2026 11:53

Dont name them both after a fruit. That’s just silly

Both names are ok alone but not as a pair. They’re not dogs or cartoon characters. They’re going to be individual and independent women one day. Not half the fruity twins

Splat92 · 31/01/2026 11:50

I love your name choices but like other PPs have said I'd go with a C O and a O C combination rather than have the matching letters.

I'm surprised so many people dislike Olive, I think it is nicer than Olivia personally.

Cailleachnamara · 31/01/2026 11:38

OP please think VERY hard before giving your twins matching fruit names.

What may seem cute when they are babies is going to be really cringe worthy and gimmicky as they get older and they may resent you for not viewing them as individuals.

Also personally think Clementine is dreadful. I can only imagine a cow being called this - like Buttercup or Clover but this may just be me!

Ellemaggie · 31/01/2026 11:18

Bemused89 · 31/01/2026 11:01

Both first names are fine. Both second names are fine. I wouldn't alliterate though. It cheapens both names. Why don't you tie them together Olive Catherine and Clementine Odette sounds better than Olive Odette and Clementine Catherine.

Calliopespa · 31/01/2026 10:35

Usernamenotav · 31/01/2026 09:42

Clemi and Oli are cute nicknames. I like their first names. I like odette as a name but not really with Olive for some reason. I don't like Catherine with Clementine. But it's up to you what names you want for your babies

The "some reason" is that too many names starting in O together sounds like someone hurriedly gulping down the last of their cup of tea.

Especially if having a picnic....
(sorry)

Yes, at a picnic op might sound extremely greedy shouting that out!

anotherpassword · 31/01/2026 10:13

I think Clementine is perfectly ok but Olive is not really very nice and like a previous reply says would be very drab compared to her sister.
Olivia is better but there are so many Olivias now.
Odette might be a cool name in UK now but in France it is very old fashioned and not in a good way as it usually belongs to women
in their 70 s or 80s.

Sometimes when you’re pregnant you go a bit hormonal and mental. So I’m just going to pose this thought…you are considering naming your children matchy fruit names. Fruit names. Names of fruits.

Individually fine, but matching fruits sounds very silly.
