Fern or Sophie…?

Hello,

We’re down to these last two names (Sophie and Fern). Sophie is obviously more popular but we like the sound. We like the link to nature with Fern, but it’s a shorter sound.

To go with the surname Robertson.

Fern Robertson
Sophie Robertson.

Would appreciate thoughts.

Lovely choices! You can't go wrong. I agree with waiting until she's born and see whether you're more drawn to one of them. Sophie is one of my favourites but Fern Robertson does sound great!

Fern is such a nice name for a girl, without being frilly. I’ve never loved Sophie, not sure why, although the meaning is great.

I really like the name Sophie and wouldn't have come up with Fern myself - but now you've mentioned it I think it sounds rather fresh and pretty.

This is not an easy choice... they have different pros and cons. Both sound great with your surname. Both have lovely sounds and vibes. Sophie is well-known and popular, and therefore safer, while Fern is unusual and in some ways more interesting. I wonder if waiting until she's born and giving it a couple of days? One of them might become the clear winner.

My DGD is Fern, she’s one of two in her school. I think they both go well, but obviously I am biased towards Fern, because she is a smart cookie and I love her
