Longer versions of Max

I know Max went through a phase 10 or so years ago of being popular but I'm considering it. I'm not sure though of just having Max. What are people's opinions of longer versions of it?
I did quite like Maxim when I came across it reading the novel Rebecca but at the time I thought it's a shame the men's magazine ruins it, but given that's not a thing anymore and younger generations won't have that associations can it be used? I also quite like Maximus but I think it's maybe too out there.
The safest might be Maxwell but I'm not sure about it.
What do you think?

Maximilian is the best.

Clearinguptheclutter · 29/01/2026 20:30

I know a few small Maxwells. I think of “Maxwell House” but I’m fairly sure that hasn’t been a thing for decades

My 26yo DS is Max ( that's what's on his birth certificate )
If I want to attract his attention ( if he's ignoring me , little git ) I call him Maxamillion.

He could be Maxx ( pretentious or what )

Max is straightforward , no nonsense , suit any age from a baby to a centurion.
It wasn;t popular when he was little but I glad it has grown popular

My cousin is Max, full name Maxwell. We joke he lives up to his name because he's 6'8"!!!

MapleOakPine · 29/01/2026 20:15

Personally I'd just go with Max.

workinghardhardlyworking · 29/01/2026 20:14

Maximian is another option

VenusClapTrap · 29/01/2026 20:11

I like Maxim. It’s very classy. Maximilian is too long, and Maxwell is too Ghislaine.

Newsenmum · 29/01/2026 19:21

Well I used to love Maxim but it’s a men’s magazine.

Maximus?

NamingNoNames · 29/01/2026 19:20

Maqsud/Maqsood if you like Arabic names.

TomatoSandwiches · 29/01/2026 19:14

I have a cousin Maximillien, goes as Max, I like Maxence which is more modern.

I thought that Max de Winter was Maximilian. Great name.

Maxim.

CelticPromise · 29/01/2026 19:01

Macsen if you like Welsh names.

Thewalrusandthecarpenter · 29/01/2026 18:40

I thought that Max de Winter was Maximilian. Great name.

I don’t think of the mag when I hear Maxim, and his generation certainly won’t.

I prefer Maximilian though.

NameChange30 · 29/01/2026 12:19

I love Maxim. In France it's Maxime but that's very close to the female Maxine so I think I prefer it without the "e". I honestly don't care about the magazine, I don't think it's a big deal. Whichever long form you go for, Max is a great name!

Gall10 · 29/01/2026 11:56

Maaaxxxxxxxxxxx. Or TK!

CocksBolingey · 29/01/2026 11:55

I know a Maximilian. He's only ever known as Max though.
When I hear Maxim I think of the men's magazine, and Maxwell I think of coffee! (Maxwell House)

I think Max in its own right is lovely.

hairyunicorn · 29/01/2026 11:54

I used to know a Maximilian...

GoldenRosebee · 29/01/2026 11:53

I only like Maximilian.

Twins3007 · 29/01/2026 11:52

I love Maximus,
