Mae is just awful.

LostThestral · 28/01/2026 11:45

I like them both so all depends on how it would sound with your surname

NamingNoNames · 28/01/2026 11:37

Poppy with anything EXCEPT May/Mae/Rae/Grace/Rose as a middle name.

Mae is awful.

HappilyDivorced89 · 28/01/2026 10:16

Poppy - definitely

Poppy

with anything EXCEPT May/Mae/Grace/Rose as a middle name

Oh and even more definite no to any kind of hyphenation!

DemonsandMosquitoes · 28/01/2026 10:09

May at a push. Not Mae.
Definitely not Poppy, so wet and infantile.
And most definitely not Poppy -Mae. Lol.

YourWinter · 28/01/2026 10:08

May (definitely NOT Mae) is a lovely middle name, though not with Poppy.

ShawnaMacallister · 28/01/2026 10:06

Poppy. Not Mae. Or May.

BendigedigBaby · 28/01/2026 10:04

May it’s a lovely name and like Rose a shame it’s become a standard filler middle name.
I also like Mai which is Welsh for May and pronounced My.

narcASD · 28/01/2026 09:14

Neither but Poppy is preferable to May, never Mae!

Purplecatshopaholic · 28/01/2026 09:12

Poppy is a lovely name. I know one who is early teens now. Mae/May is less nice, not cool, and makes me think of Mae West, sorry.

Clearinguptheclutter · 28/01/2026 09:10

Poppy

with anything EXCEPT May/Mae/Grace/Rose as a middle name

Pierpointer · 28/01/2026 09:08

Poppy is nice.

Definitely not Mae. What about Maeve or Esme, with nn Mae?

estrogone · 28/01/2026 08:07

itsgettingweird · 28/01/2026 08:03

Mae spelt this way is more of a middle name.

like May and Poppy.

Could have Poppy Mae as the name

For the love God. Nooooooooo not Poppy-Mae.

That is the twee-est name I have ever heard.

estrogone · 28/01/2026 08:06

Neither.

What about Maeve with nn Mae?
Or Penelope with nn Penny?

itsgettingweird · 28/01/2026 08:03

Mae spelt this way is more of a middle name.

like May and Poppy.

Could have Poppy Mae as the name

FancyPantsDressup · 28/01/2026 08:02

Just no to Mae/May.

FancyPantsDressup · 28/01/2026 08:01

Lollylavender · 28/01/2026 07:45

Neither

But if I had to choose, Mae/May

ChateauProvence · 28/01/2026 06:54

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 28/01/2026 06:51

Poppy

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 28/01/2026 04:26

Poppy Mae Would be nice

GinsengTea · 28/01/2026 01:43

Mae (spelled May) — but only if your surname is not Day!

Pettenell · 28/01/2026 01:38

I like both Poppy and Mae, but prefer Mae. While both Mae and May spellings are fine I prefer May. But it's fine to go with the spelling that you like.

Sparklinggreen · 27/01/2026 23:19

Poppy is nice

Don’t like Mae - will have eternal issue of people misspelling it as May which I also not a fan of
