Hi everyone,
Our little girl was born on Thursday and we still don’t have a name!! We have a shortlist but I don’t know if they are just overdone and boring or if they are just classic, timeless options. Please can we have your opinions on our list and any others you think might suit!

Charlotte
Emma
Beatrix
Naomi

Thank you x

LivingTheDreamish · 24/01/2026 23:18

Congratulations! The only one that might fit the boring and overdone label is Charlotte. But it's still a good name!

Emma is gorgeous, I think I'd go for that but Naomi and Beatrix are both more unusual and rather nice. Prefer the nn potential of Beatrix (Bea/Trixie).

rainbowsandraspberrygin · 24/01/2026 20:52

All lovely!

Laplandsnow · 24/01/2026 20:48

Well I don’t think it matters what anyone thinks. It’s more telling that you’re asking and it’s on your mind that your choices could be deemed boring and safe.
Will you regret it in the future? Do you have any other less common names you would consider?

We chose a name that isn’t common/popular and everyone has commented on how lovely and different it is (it’s not bonkers!) but we did have some ‘safer’ names on our list such as Imogen and Sofia which are both lovely but I’d have regretted giving my daughter a safe name

tedibear · 24/01/2026 20:44

Charlotte and Emma are lovely. I’d prob lean more towards Charlotte.

CatsNdogs77 · 24/01/2026 20:38

I have a Naomi. We pronounce (nay-o-me) the amount of people who call her ( ni-o-me) including school staff and friends parents and even some relatives. I know she finds it very annoying.

HowDoYouSolveAProblemLikeMyRear · 24/01/2026 20:22

All lovely names - beautiful and classic.

Beatrix is my favourite girls' name. Perfect meaning, elegant sound, everyone knows how to spell and pronounce it, but it's nevertheless quite rare.

itsgettingweird · 24/01/2026 20:14

Lovely names.

Charlotte’s my favourite.

Love Naomi but also Freya.

Prefer Beatrice to Beatrix but the name itself is timeless and classic.

Emma is a lovely name but it is more bland than the others.

TheJadeDeer · 24/01/2026 20:09

Lovely, all of them. I have an unusual name and would swap it in a heartbeat for any of those.

DramaAlpaca · 24/01/2026 20:08

If I'd had a daughter she'd have been Emma.

I also like Charlotte and Naomi.

I don't like Beatrix as she'd inevitably get called Trixie, which sounds like a yappy little lapdog. Beatrice is nice, though.

TheLette · 24/01/2026 20:03

I like all your names - nice, solid, respectable names which aren't too common these days. I prefer Beatrice to Beatrix though, and that's my least favourite of the 4. Think about whether you would want a nickname and which one if so. Personally I love Charlotte but I'm not keen on Lottie or Charlie.

LoveHearts69 · 24/01/2026 19:49

Beatrix is lovely and can be shortened to Bea or Beattie

RegalDiamondMonster · 24/01/2026 19:37

Charlotte - not a fan, dislike the sound, like Lottie though
Emma - nice, classic, Jane Austen etc
Beatrix- prefer Beatrice but still good. Love Bea.
Naomi- ok. I think it would make a good middle name.

snowdrop75 · 24/01/2026 19:22

Charlotte is beautiful, I wanted this should ds2 have been a girl but exdp disagreed

Charlotte Beatrix

Emma I find is too boring (there's millions of them in my generation 45) and Naomi, the only one I know is a complete psycho so it taints the name for me sorry.

mathanxiety · 24/01/2026 19:16

Charlotte and Emma are very safe.

Beatrix and Naomi are classic but still have pizzazz. Especially Beatrix vs Beatrice.

Enko · 24/01/2026 19:16

They are solid well known names. Not my atyle as such but nor would I bat an eyelid for them

I would use Beatrix or Naomi. But thats because they are less used of the 4. I have never liked Emma and find Charlotte boring

However this is your dd (Congratulations) what does she feel like when you hold her and say those names to her?

From the sort you like I would suggest

Sophia
Elizabeth
Abigail

GiantYorkshirePud · 24/01/2026 19:12

All are great!

I’m an Emma, and have an 11 month old Charlotte 🥰 I was worried her name was a little bit ‘safe’ (even though i loved it) and chose a unique middle name for her with a special meaning. Maybe you can do the same?

District66 · 24/01/2026 19:07

All lovely congratulations

JumpingPumpkin · 24/01/2026 19:04

I like Beatrix most out of those. All perfectly fine names.

Silverbirchleaf · 24/01/2026 18:51

Charlotte - love this name
Emma - not bad,
Beatrix- prefer Beatrice
Naomi- lovely name

It’s a nice list.

Suggestions:
Lydia
Christina
Anna
Rebecca
Verity
Daniella

repeatingabaselessclaim · 24/01/2026 18:45

OP I think that all the names you've considered are lovely; beautiful, I like them all in equal measure, and that never happens when posters post a list of names they like!
Many congratulations on the birth of your precious baby girl!

TheignT · 24/01/2026 17:49

AwfullyGood · 24/01/2026 09:39

I love Charlotte, Emma and Naomi.

Beatrix is one if my least favorite names ever.

Agree

Namingbaba · 24/01/2026 17:45

I love Beatrix. I love the ending as it's so unusual and not really found in other names. That would be my top name but I'm put off it as our surname begins with a J.

RuthW · 24/01/2026 17:04

Love Beatrix. Also love Naomi but don’t like that it can be said two ways.

Mrscharlieeeee · 24/01/2026 17:03

I think they are classic, which is not my thing at all but I do happen to be a Charlotte! I go by Charlie though, much to my mum’s chagrin, bless her.

cramptramp · 24/01/2026 17:00

All lovely names.
