Hey what does everyone think of Moses?

Last name begins with a Y.

I think my only issue is I’m not sure on the NN Moe 🤣 But I don’t know if my love for the full name outweighs that

Also on the shortlist:

  • Isaac
  • Jude
  • Miles
  • Archer
OP posts:

Depending on the surname, it could sound very Jewish. Not a bad thing, but could be strange if you are not.

I love @yonem ’s suggestion of Amos if you like Moses but not the associations.

Use it as a middle name.

Isaac - ok
Jude - currently very popular. Not keen
Miles -like
Archer - dislike

It’s ok but as others have said, extremely religious. If you’re looking for something unusual I’d bear in mind that although he will probably be the only Moses in his class he probably won’t be the only Mo as it’s also a common nickname for Mohammad.

Isaac is lovely and Miles is nice. Not keen on Archer. Jude is ok.

What about Amos?

I’d be surprised to meet a white British child called Moses. I meet people called Moses not infrequently and they are usually middle aged or elderly African Caribbean men. It doesn’t really fit with the other names on your list.
My favourite is Isaac, the other biblical name that you like. It’s a name that I think suits someone from childhood into adulthood. Zack and Izzy are nice nicknames, too.

LadyKenya · 19/01/2026 08:55

At least a boy with that name will be the only one in the class. I like it, I think that there are some really nice, underused biblical names.

GoodVibesHere · 19/01/2026 08:47

I assume you are very religious, as it's such biblical name and comes across as somewhat extreme, rather like naming a child Jesus.

I guess if the child grows up in a very religious household they might accept the name but once they become an adult they might want to change their name, if they're not deeply religious themselves.

TheKateColumbo · 19/01/2026 08:47

I can’t help but instantly think basket.
It’s much nicer than Archer IMO but not as nice a Jude which I love.

KeepAwayDaphne · 19/01/2026 08:46

I love the name, but for me it's more for a pet than a human (a family member has an elderly cat called Moses).

Isaac, Jude and Miles are all good though.

Honestly I would think you are very religious, it’s a couple of levels lower than calling your kid Jesus IMO

Yes..this!

PersephoneParlormaid · 19/01/2026 08:43

I prefer Miles, Isaac and Jude

I rather like Moe as a familiar name.

NeverBeAPart · 19/01/2026 08:41

I like it. I’ve known 2 people called Moses - one child and one adult - and they were both lovely!
