Hey what does everyone think of Moses?

Last name begins with a Y.

I think my only issue is I’m not sure on the NN Moe 🤣 But I don’t know if my love for the full name outweighs that

Also on the shortlist:

  • Isaac
  • Jude
  • Miles
  • Archer
OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I don't get churchy/ religious vibes from Moses at all.

I'd call it rocker/ surfer dude, and in the same category as Levi, Seth, Ethan, and Eli.

I like Isaac and Miles from your list too.

It’s ok but as others have said, extremely religious. If you’re looking for something unusual I’d bear in mind that although he will probably be the only Moses in his class he probably won’t be the only Mo as it’s also a common nickname for Mohammad.

Isaac is lovely and Miles is nice. Not keen on Archer. Jude is ok.

What about Amos?

I love Amos ❤️

ScaredOfFlying · 21/01/2026 00:39

I’d think you were a basket case 😉

OliviaBonas · 21/01/2026 00:37

Noah is way better.

DuchessOfNarcissex · 20/01/2026 22:39

The book of Tobit isn't in standard UK Christian Bibles, @dogsarebetterthanppl .

Sohelpmegod25 · 20/01/2026 22:38

Archer?????
there was a thread on here someone wanting to call their kid “Arch” and someone rightly said why not go the full hog and call him viaduct

just ridiculous

other names not to bad guessing a religious family?

DuchessOfNarcissex · 20/01/2026 12:54

@dogsarebetterthanppl , Raphael isn't mentioned in the Bible.

the book of tobit says otherwise

Moses is quite nice , thing is though Moe is not !
& it will be shortened to Moe especially by people when he becomes an adult .
Jude is 👌

Kumquatzest · 20/01/2026 12:18

I think it's usable, though maybe it depends on your location and social circle.

I think it's more common in certain communities e.g. Jewish, African, Carribbean, Polynesian.

In my community it would probably stick out as sounding "religious" but I think people would get used to it.

TamarindCottage · 20/01/2026 07:38

If it’s good enough for the Paltrow Martin’s …

CheddarCheeseAndCrispSandwich · 20/01/2026 07:31

I’d think you were extremely religious! Nothing wrong with the name but it’s very, very biblical - as another poster said, only one step away from calling your child Jesus.

Sugarpie9 · 20/01/2026 06:17

I think it’s a great name but don’t like it when it’s shortened to Mo.

I know two.

I think Isaac, Is much easier to live with day to day personally.

dogsarebetterthanppl · 19/01/2026 15:34

absolutely not moses is completely horrendous imo, i love jude but far too popular at present (i think its better to be the only one in the class than jude a jude b and jude c)
if you like biblical how about:
cain (love this)
zachariah nn zack (love zachariah not sold on zack)
ezra (one of my favs)
elijah (another fav)
joel (really nice if you aren't an eastenders fan)
raphael nn raffy (adore this)
jonah (the most beautiful child i have ever knew was called this i adored him)

Cain - first ever murderer, according to the Bible. Not a great association.

MyStupidUsername · 20/01/2026 05:10

It's very very Christian and I think it will stick out, but not in a positive way.

You do see Miriam occasionally for girls but fewer people would recognise the reference so it is more neutral.

Idontknowhatnametochoose · 20/01/2026 05:04

Moses is awful imo.

Isaac is better.

WallaceinAnderland · 20/01/2026 04:58

The only Moses I know goes by the name of Moss. I think that's nicer than Moe.

Pettenell · 20/01/2026 04:18

I'm not a fan of Moses, but I like Miles and Archer from your list.

LivingTheDreamish · 20/01/2026 03:25

It does seem a bit out there, but then Noah caught on...

BertieWoostersChaps · 20/01/2026 00:06

I don't mind it. Only met one (African). Isn't gwyneth paltrow's son called Moses?

What about Aaron (brother of Moses?)

Giraffehaver · 19/01/2026 22:49

I only know a King Charles Spaniel called Moses and he's great! It's a lovely sounding name

CandiedPrincess · 19/01/2026 16:21

Around my way, it's a traveller name. Nothing wrong with that of course, but that's the association I would make.

KnickerlessParsons · 19/01/2026 16:19

Always makes me think of Singing in the Rain

"Moses supposes his toeses are Roses,
But Moses supposes Erroneously,
Moses he knowses his toeses aren't roses,
As Moses supposes his toeses to be!
Moses supposes his toeses are Roses,
But Moses supposes Erroneously,
A mose is a mose!
A rose is a rose!
A toes is a toes!
Hooptie doodie doodle
Moses supposes his toeses are Roses,
But Moses supposes Erroneously,
For Moses he knowses his toeses arent roses,
As Moses supposes his toeses to be!"

TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 19/01/2026 16:17

I like it. Risk of being called

Mo, becomes Moana
Mossy
MoseY as a nickname as in "mosey around"

But boys will find a million ways to nickname a friend that you've never consider. I generally go with names I wouldn't shorten myself.

Sparklinggreen · 19/01/2026 15:44

I like Miles a lot
jude is ok
dont like Moses or the rest
