Another thread from me! Please help me decide on a Welsh middle name

OP posts:

More suggestions: Llywela, Buddug, Morfydd, Dyddgu, Gaenor, Sioned, Mair/Meira

If you have links to somewhere that has a pretty river name, you could use that as a middle name.

Seasonal middle names: Haf, Mai, Medi, Hefin (boy's name but might work as a middle name)

DanDin · 15/01/2026 14:15

Yseult isn't Welsh @Londonmummy66 . The Welsh form is Esyllt, which is lovely.

Other suggestions:
Menai
Elliw
Heulwen

Londonmummy66 · 15/01/2026 12:39

Yseult? I really like Seren but think it would be better as Seren Alys/Alice. Anghara Alice or Alice Nia also work

Watchoutfortheslowaraf · 15/01/2026 12:35

From your list - Alice Mabli

my preference would be Alys Eluned

Keepgettingolder81 · 15/01/2026 12:33

If the first name is two syllables, why don’t you go for a second name with just one to make it flow better? Alice Mai (pronounced’May’) etc

DanDin · 15/01/2026 12:33

Not as cute as Sali Mali Smile

TheeNotoriousPIG · 15/01/2026 12:31

I've voted for Eleri, but around here, it doesn't rhyme with celery!

However, I suppose that Ali Mali might be a cute nickname!

ScholesPanda · 15/01/2026 12:26

I've voted for Eleri.

Also, Mali as in Sali Mali?

Wheezygonzalez · 15/01/2026 12:17

What about Nia?

DanDin · 15/01/2026 09:18

@Savoretti , Eleri is El-erry. It doesn't rhyme with celery.

@LolaBumble , your list is nice but none really go with the first name. They have a first name feel to them. Eleri goes best, but seems dated as a middle name (as does Angharad). I'd go for a Welsh name that you like but wouldn't use because of spelling/pronunciation.
My favourite fromyour list is Mali but it's like 'Alice Molly'.

Some suggestions:
Alice Mererid
Alice Eluned
Alice Gwenllian
Alice Catrin
Alice Myfanwy

Alice Erin doesn't work because they run into each other, and Erin doesn't come across as Welsh. Elin would be better.

crocodilesandwich · 15/01/2026 03:46

The pairings aren’t great in my opinion. Alice Ffion could be lovely depending on your surname though

mathanxiety · 15/01/2026 01:41

Alice Eleri is nice. A middle name starting with a vowel works well with Alice.

Alice Angharad might be nice too.

Pettenell · 15/01/2026 01:39

As pretty as Seren is I don't think it works with Alice as the 's' sounds run into each other. I also think Eleri doesn't work with the Al and El sounds making a tongue twister and 'celery'.

Both Mali and Mabli work well with Alice, and are lovely names. I voted for Mabli.

murasaki · 15/01/2026 00:00

The was a kid in my sister's class at school called Cerian, I always liked that and it might work?

spiderlight · 14/01/2026 23:43

I love Seren and Eleri, but the S in Seren gets lost at the end of Alice, and Alice Eleri is too much like Ali Celery! I've voted for Mabli, but my choice would be Rhiannon.

SpringingOn · 14/01/2026 22:20

Of your names I would choose Mabli but I think Alice Nansi is nice.

Redgooseberry · 14/01/2026 22:17

I love all your possible names, but I agree with a PP they perhaps don’t work brilliantly with Alice

I like (sorry but I’ve used the Welsh form of Alice!):
Alys Angharad
Alys Ffion
Alys Nia
Alys Lowri

So many beautiful Welsh names!

CharlotteSometimeslikesanafternoonnap · 14/01/2026 21:54

I'd go with Fflur or Catrin but of your options maybe Mali.

Wheezygonzalez · 14/01/2026 21:53

Have You thought about the Welsh spelling of Alice? - Alys?

loislovesstewie · 14/01/2026 21:51

I like Rhiannon, I knew a very sweet Rhiannon.

PhantomAfternoonTea · 14/01/2026 21:48

Alice Haf
Alice Eira
Alice Rhiannon
Alice Lowri
Alice Betsan

From your list I'd go for Mabli though.

GandTtwice · 14/01/2026 21:40

Of the list I'd go with Seren but I think Alice Siân would be a nice pairing

CapybarasAreJustGuineaBigs · 14/01/2026 21:35

None of those really work with Alice tbh, they all run together weirdly and get a bit mashed up in the middle. All of them are lovely names though, that's not a comment on your taste!

user2848502016 · 14/01/2026 21:33

Alice (or Alys?) Eleri

Onelife2024 · 14/01/2026 21:17

I know an Alice Megan, which is lovely.
