What does the name Jamie bring to mind?

His full name would be James to give him options but we'd call him Jamie.

Jamie is not short for James! It’s actually more syllables.

The one I’m married to often finds himself being very firm with people that it’s a name in it’s own right and NOT short for James! So honouring DH by sharing his views!

Sounds feminine to me. But I know 2 young women named Jamie.

In America it is often a female name. I love it though, for a boy, but would use James officially to name the baby.

Jamie is babyish, by all means call him Jamie at home but christen him James He can then choose what he uses professionally, then you have the best of both worlds.

Another one here with a son called Jamie. Well, at least he was. He went away to university as Jamie and came back as James! But that was one of the reasons I chose the name, because there are SO many potential options that can be used at different life stages if wanted, I’m predicting he will be Grandad Jim in the future!

It's your baby. You get to choose! It really, really doesn't matter what anyone else thinks, as long as it's not a name like Mussolini or Robocop. Go with your heart.

My brother is called James. He’s known as Jamie but we call him Jay for short. He’s in his 40’s.

James was our dad’s middle name, and is my partner and sons middle name.

Teacher here. Reminds me naughty boys🤣it's a name i never associate with an adult. If the actual name is James this could be used professionally if desired i suppose. James a classic name.

My DS was a Jamie, when he got to about 15/16 he decided that he preferred James which is what everyone, except me, calls him now. I still call him Jamie or Jimma (because he's my 21 year old baby).

I've only ever known one and that was a boy I went to school with.

I know three Jamie's and oddly enough they're all young women. I think it had a bit of a renaissance as a girl's name in the 00's.

Its cute though, uncommon enough that he'll probably be the only one in his class, but not unusual enough that he'll stick out like a sore thumb, and lots of options for alternative nicknames if he doesn't like Jamie as he gets older.

James, Jim, Jimmy are all fine, lovely names, but Jamie always makes me uncomfortable.

There were lots of Jamie’s when I was at school in the 90s. To me it’s a bit chavy, but that’s probably because of the people I associate with having that name more than anything else.
