Thoughts on Jessamy (Jess-a-me). It's 17th Century variation on Jasmine and Jessamine.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I really like it,but has a nice sound and is unusual without being 'out there'

Pemba · 12/01/2026 21:26

It's pretty and unusual.

I like it a lot and no one would have to spell it to me. These days some people are so small minded . Ignore all the silly comments!

I always say this on here. I have the most boring, of its time, name. I was one of 5 on my class all through primary and there were 7 of us in my last job.

I still have to spell my name all of the time.

Do not let the fact that sone people will need it spelling out put you off OP.

Sounds like a name the Duggar family would use.

Yes!

sprigatito · 12/01/2026 21:19

I love it, it’s a very old and pretty name. In a similar vein, I love Jennet.

Dollyfloss · 12/01/2026 21:17

Can I suggest Jesslyn as a possible contender OP? It’s a character in one of my favourite books and I’ve always thought it quite pretty.

SleafordSods · 12/01/2026 21:15

Bloodyscarymary · 12/01/2026 15:34

Jessamine is much nicer and has the same sound, so why not use that?

I absolutely love Jessamine. I think if we’d had a DD2 it definitely would have been on the list.

AutumnClouds · 12/01/2026 21:06

It’s lovely

TheClocksFast · 12/01/2026 21:06

I quite like it

MummytoBoth · 12/01/2026 21:03

I really like it!

JoleneYouCanHaveHim · 12/01/2026 21:01

It’s like Jessica and Jeremy made a baby

somanychristmaslights · 12/01/2026 21:00

Sounds made up

Spacemountain · 12/01/2026 21:00

I went to school with a Jessamy. She was a lovely, cool, popular girl so that is what I think of when I hear the name.

Gingercar · 12/01/2026 20:49

Shmee1988 · 12/01/2026 15:35

No. Just no. Sounds like 'jizz on me'.... her teenage years will be dreadful.

Oh do grow up! It doesn’t sound anything like that. Or are you one of those people that can’t pronounce anything but the most basic words.

OP I didn’t like it at the start of this thread, but I’ve kind of got used to it. As will most people, and people will learn to pronounce it properly once they have used it a couple of times.

tipsyraven · 12/01/2026 20:49

I like it.

CatsSleepFatandWalkThin · 12/01/2026 20:47

Sounds trailer park.

Tammygirl12 · 12/01/2026 20:47

I don’t like it at all

LittleGreenDuck · 12/01/2026 20:46

I went to school with a Jessamy. Her family were very wannabe upper class. They'd have conniptions at the thought of being Youneek or American made-up.

I don't think I'd use the name myself but it's not horrendous.

Wildbushlady · 12/01/2026 20:37

OhNoSummer · 12/01/2026 19:49

It's a longstanding name. Perhaps you don't read much?

I know the name has a history.

So do many awful sounding names, and regardless, it still sounds like a mix up of Jessica and Jeremy.

17caterpillars1mouse · 12/01/2026 20:32

I like it, but have an interest in names so am aware of the name. Definitely doesnt seem made up to me

Itsnaptime · 12/01/2026 20:32

There's a woman on Hollyoaks called Jessamy (plays liberty) if never heard it before until her and I thought it was unusual but in a nice way

Dollyfloss · 12/01/2026 20:30

It sounds like the perfect name for an intersex child (if there is such a thing!)

Anyone remember the boy/girl baby from Terrorhawks? 😂

OhNoSummer · 12/01/2026 20:28

MyThreeWords · 12/01/2026 20:26

But t does sound like a trashy mash up, which is what the poster said.

Well, a) that would be a mean thing to say to someone, and b) it isn't a "trashy mashup", and calling it that says more about the PP than the OP.

MyThreeWords · 12/01/2026 20:26

OhNoSummer · 12/01/2026 20:21

Yes, I was being snarky back to a poster who said:

It sounds like you couldn't decide between jessica or jeremy and created some trashy mash up.

Plenty of us have come across this lovely name. It is not a "trashy mash up".

But t does sound like a trashy mash up, which is what the poster said.
