Baby girls name help

Expecting a March baby and don’t know what we’re having. Baby boy name is solid and has been from the start. Baby girl name me and DH are struggling. We have three favourites but for some reason I’m not convinced any of them are “the one”. Can I ask the Mumsnet consensus on our finalists? And any other suggestions welcome. Middle name would be either Jane, Joyce or Margaret. Surname is fairly common, begins with F and goes with most things.

Claudia
Cora
Cordelia

Cordelia is DH’s fave and rather a late entry to our shortlist. I do like it but can’t decide if it’s a bit much.

Thanks!

Cora would be my pick, because I find it prettier than the typical short versions of Claudia (Claudie) and Cordelia (Cordy).

I think Cordelia is a bit much and prefer Cecily or Cecelia. My favourite from your list is Claudia.

I like Cora. I know people who love Cordelia but it isn’t for me can’t really explain why. Maybe a bit flowery. Other suggestions

coralie
clara
cleo
cassia
cecilia

Cordelia is my favourite.
Claudia is nice too.
Cora - I just hear apple corer, but think Coral is lovely.

Claudia- Agree that the pronunciation could be different in different accents but I do like it.
Cora- Not to my taste. Feels old lady with rollers in her hair. No idea why though?
Cordelia- Its ok too.

Do you like names starting with C or this is just co-incidence? Some others:
-Coral or Coralie- nn could be Cora
-Courtney
-Odette
-Ophelia

I like Cora Jane.

Sofiatheworst · 11/01/2026 12:44

I love Cordelia - could be Cora for short?
Cordelia Joyce is lovely

Emanwenym · 11/01/2026 12:44

Claudia - like but 'clawed-ya' or 'cloud-ya'? (the ones I know are 'cloud-ya' but not british.) Might be too closely associated with a tv presenter. I like Claudine.
Cora - apple corer. Downton Abbey character.
Cordelia - Shakespearean. Will be shortened. My favourite of the three.

Middle names are ok, but Jane was far too popular as a middle name in my age group. I'd pick Margaret.

I like longer names so I love Claudia and Cordelia. Really love Cordelia. Cordelia Jane or Claudia Joyce are lovely.
