Thoughts on Leigh for a little girl please?

My friend's husband is called Leigh.

I thought it was more of a male name

I would never have guessed that Leigh was pronounced Lee and not Leigh/Neigh?

Have you not come across women/girls with names like Ashleigh and Kayleigh?

HugoYorway · 31/12/2025 14:21

I know one and she's really nice but she's about 50. Same as the Lees (maIe ) know.

Moveoverdarlin · 31/12/2025 14:20

Every Lee in school in the 80s was a scallywag. They’d all be 50 ish now. I think it’s awful for a boy and worse for a girl.

For me it’s no different to calling a little girl Wayne, Gary, Darren or Terry.

The last three letters are silent 😁

Leah is a bit nicer.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 31/12/2025 14:20

Boring sorry.

StripedVase · 31/12/2025 14:19

I like it, I've also known women who spell it Lee and like that too.

Soontobe60 · 31/12/2025 14:19

It’s a great name! It’s strong, uncommon, can’t be shortened. Depends on your surname though.

Slothey · 31/12/2025 14:17

I’m afraid I think it’s quite ugly.

Runningismyhappyplace50 · 31/12/2025 14:15

I like it for a girl.

LadyDanburysHat · 31/12/2025 14:13

its a bit 80s. Not really keen.

AgentPidge · 31/12/2025 14:13

I'm not keen on surnames as first names and most of them are boys' names. I like Leah though.

Leigh Teabing was a British male aristocrat in The Da Vinci Code, which I always thought was a bit daft.

JDM625 · 31/12/2025 14:13

I'm personally not a fan of names that sound the same in both genders:
Leigh and Lee
Peta and Peter
Charley and Charlie

I prefer Leah, but Leigh is easy to pronounce, not popular

How is it pronounced?

Like Neigh 🐴?

Lee

FlutteryButterfly · 31/12/2025 14:11

Not keen but thats my opinion and its only yours that matters. Obviously its not a ridiculous name so if you love it go for it. Im a fan on Leah/Leigha/Lia though!

Nannyogganny · 31/12/2025 14:10

I know a male Leigh. Its ok

WaneyEdge · 31/12/2025 14:09

It’s the name of a town in the north west so no I wouldn’t.

Enko · 31/12/2025 14:09

Not my type of name but nor would I go " they called her that!!!" Perfectly normal name.

LilyLemonade · 31/12/2025 14:08

Love it, very simple and versatile.
