Thoughts on Leigh for a little girl please?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

It's very 80s

Leah is nicer imo

PevenseygirlQQ · 01/01/2026 18:48

I don’t mind Leigh, I haven’t seen it for a first name in a long time, but do often see Macey- Leigh, Katie - Leigh etc, much prefer it as a stand alone name. Also think Leah is a pretty name.

It is totally disingenuous sneering. Like posters on another thread claiming they don’t know what ‘bailed on me’ means.

Not being disingenuous or sneery 🤨 Sleigh is pronounced slay and Leigh is exactly the same spelling without the S.

Leigh on Sea

That was my immediate thought, as in “ Let’s go to Leigh”

Candymay · 01/01/2026 17:25

This is actually my least favourite name in the whole world. But you don’t need to please me because we may never meet.

Lee and Leigh only ok if surnames. Detest as first names. But I think it’s all about associations isn’t it? I’m from the 70s. The Lee’s I knew were not nice.

if I met your little Leigh I might end up loving the name

AgnesMcDoo · 01/01/2026 17:20

Beautiful

I can't believe that posters are unfamiliar with the name and how to say it.

I knew a lovely girl called Lee, so love it.
Knew a horrible one called Leigh so.. 😁
I do like it in general though.

TomatoSandwiches · 01/01/2026 16:26

I find it a bit of a filler name, like may/ae/ai, a bit meh.

NoraLuka · 01/01/2026 16:25

It’s not ugly or anything but I would pronounce it to rhyme with sleigh unless told otherwise and think it was a male name.

DisforDarkChocolate · 01/01/2026 16:20

I love it too.

Thewalrusandthecarpenter · 01/01/2026 16:20

I have only ever thought of it as a boy’s name - I know two men of 50-ish of that name and spelling. Vivien Leigh took her husband’s middle name Leigh as her stage surname.

smallsilvercloud · 01/01/2026 16:13

Not keen, it was popular in the 80s Leigh and Leigh-Ann sometimes instead of Leanne, I think there is much nicer names

Drind · 01/01/2026 16:02

I love Leigh and Lee for a girl. Simple, strong, elegant. Jackie Kennedy’s sister was a Lee.

abracadabra1980 · 01/01/2026 15:41

Awful and a bit chavvy where i live.

How many female Leighs do you know?

wizzbitt · 01/01/2026 15:50

I know both a male and female Leigh. I love the name.

Bluebunnylover · 01/01/2026 15:48

Leigh is a really pretty and unique name - I’m surprised as some of these comments

RufustheFactuaIReindeer · 01/01/2026 15:40

My brothers name

my parents went for names that could be used by either sex…..back in the 60’s/70’s so it didn’t matter if we were male or female, we would have had the same name 😀

goingtotown · 01/01/2026 15:35

Leigh on Sea

CeciliaC · 01/01/2026 15:02

I much prefer Leah or Leia - Leigh sounds a bit old fashioned to me.

Hallpast · 01/01/2026 12:52

On sea

Liftedmeup · 01/01/2026 12:52

Not keen. It’s very dated. I know a few Leighs and they don’t tend to like their name.

Jappled · 01/01/2026 12:49

goldtrap · 01/01/2026 11:34

I think it works for a girl, with that spelling. It's kind of cute. In the US it would be quite a classy name

Mm, I don't think it would be seen as very classy in the UK. Like Kayleigh, it's a bit 80s and not a typically solid middle class name if that matters to you.
