Jasmine - is this too boring/dated?

Hi, my daughter is 3 weeks old. Do you think Jasmine is too safe/boring or too dated?

Me and my husband have uncommon names.
my sons name is heard of but definitely not popular.
My eldest daughter’s names is uncommon, 3 syllable name which is often a bit of a marmite name but is a conversation starter and still my favourite name of all time!

I wanted a similar style name for my baby daughter but couldn’t commit to one. (I love 3 syllables ending in a sound).

I absolutely love the name Eliza and this was the top contender throughout the pregnancy. But I’m worried it’s having a bit of a popularity rise at the moment (I seem to be hearing it everywhere). And as previously mentioned the rest of the family have uncommon names. Plus my hubby struggled to remember this name!

Baby was also called Yasmin for about 10hours but then I changed my mind to Jasmine.

I’m also concerned about what suits our ethnicity, she’s mixed (mostly black British) and was worried Eliza and Yasmin didn’t suit her.

So my question is, do I stick with Jasmine or do you prefer Yasmin or Eliza?

Thanks

Jasmine’s lovely.

Beamur · 31/12/2025 16:59

I don't know any little Jasmines. Couple of teens - usually shortened to Jas/Jazzy.
It's a pretty name.

Everleigh13 · 31/12/2025 16:58

Jasmine is a lovely name. I’m surprised it isn’t more popular.

XGiveMeStrengthX · 31/12/2025 16:57

It’s lovely!

Moreteaandchocolate · 31/12/2025 16:55

I like Jasmine - good choice!

RegalDiamondMonster · 31/12/2025 14:11

I really dislike the sound of Eliza - Elizabeth sounds nicer - but Jasmine is very pretty. I'd stick with Jasmine.

I really like it. Much prefer Jasmine to your other options.

VimesandhisCardboardBoots · 31/12/2025 13:49

18yo DD has it as her middle name. She absolutely loathes it. Luckily she liked it as her first name.

Lins77 · 31/12/2025 13:42

I've just read a book with a character called Jessamine.

Not keen.

EatingHealthy · 31/12/2025 13:41

Jasmine is lovely (as is Eliza).

Do not do Jessamine as a pp suggested - that's awful.

SnowFrogJelly · 31/12/2025 13:40

Jasmine not Cassia!

WarmGreyHare · 31/12/2025 13:40

Fruityxx99 · 31/12/2025 13:35

Cassia was also on my list but the hubby wasn’t keen

Cassandra?
Jemima
Juniper
Jessica

SnowFrogJelly · 31/12/2025 13:39

I like it 🩷

Emanwenym · 31/12/2025 13:37

I love Jasmine

DisplayPurposesOnly · 31/12/2025 13:33

Jasmine is lovely. I dont like Jas but do like Mina, might be hard to channel people into Mina though.

Alternative suggestion if you want one - Nerissa. It's from Shakespeare. Can be shortened to Riss.

NotNowFGS · 31/12/2025 13:29

Like it. It won't date. Pretty without being twee.

Jasmine is my favourite of the "flower" type names. It's very pretty.

I also love the name Iris (forgot that).

dailyconniptions · 31/12/2025 13:26

I like Jasmine. I also like Cassia.

GetToHeaven · 31/12/2025 13:25

My friend has a Jasmine who’s 10 now and she’s the only one in her school. Not sure if it’s become more popular since but it’s definitely not everywhere. I’ve always thought it was a lovely name.

miniaturepixieonacid · 31/12/2025 13:21

I think Jasmine is pretty and not very common nowadays (but not dated - one of those names where there you always know a couple but never dozens).

I like Yasmin too. Less keen on Eliza.

Agree with pps that Jocelyn and Jemima seem to fit the bill. Also perhaps Jessamy, Jacinta or Juliette.

Emanwenym · 31/12/2025 12:38

Jasmine is lovely.
Eliza is OK but there seem to be a lot of El- names around.
I don't like Jasmina.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 31/12/2025 11:37

Jasmine Eliza then she can switch the names around at a later stage.
