Love it. But does it just blend in with the ridiculously popular Olivia? Thoughts?

I didn't realise how much of a marmite name Olive is! And now it's got me wondering whether I'll be giving a DD a name she will hate

On the buses.

I thought same ,we're showing our age.
Terrible programme.

I like it! Considered it for DD1. I have no idea what the ‘on the buses’ reference is, and wonder what age the PPs that are saying it are?

I'm in my 30's and I do know On The Buses, only because we used to watch it at my Granny's when we were kids. But tbh, despite that, I'd completely forgot about Olive on there!!! Those who have that association are definitely older. If my Granny was still alive and I told her we'd called DD Olive shed probably turn her nose up. Definitely a generation thing.

Sorry I just think of green/black olives, not a fan! Much prefer Olivia

BatchCookBabe · 28/12/2025 22:56

It seems popular right now. I don't like it at all though. JMO.

I’ve literally had a baby 2 weeks ago and we’ve gone with poppy because we love the nicknames pop, pops, popsy etc but Olive has always had a piece of my heart and I’m wondering if I need to change it. Poppy does go with our other children’s names better but im wondering if I’ll always regret not using Olive. I adore it. I might need to get a cat if I don’t use it for my daughter…

Sounds like you're going to have huge name regret. It seems to me you love Olive more than Poppy.
Obviously as the OP of this post I will only sway you towards Olive 🤣

A name ruined for me by my former Head Mistress. Also by Olive from "on the buses" and Olive Oil from Sinbad the Sailor.

Sorry @agirlandherdog1234 but I don't think it works, even in 2026.

uhtredofbattenberg · 28/12/2025 21:37

My grandmas name - amazed its making a comeback, but most names do.

I really can’t stand Olive or Olivia. No idea how either became so popular.

Horses for courses I suppose.

I don't understand how Isabelle/Isobel/Isabella, Sophia, Evie, Esme are popular but different strokes different folks I guess.

I appreciate people's associations with names and stuff, but as the name Olive has revived a bit, the association would no longer be that? I'd like to think??

Edited

It was my first thought.

tillytigger · 28/12/2025 21:28

i have an Olive! she is 2 and half and everyone we've met loves her name! only 'older' people (i'm 28) have mentioned popeye or on the buses, we call her Bobs (started as ollibobs) ☺️

Gladys and Beryl have a retro vibe.

True that.
I don't feel its in the same league though

@agirlandherdog1234 Olivia is nice but they're everywhere. Olive is drab and frumpy.

I agree about Olivia. It is nice, but I like the retro vibe of Olive.
As I've said above I get the impression Olive is a very marmite name! That's the spice of life though ☺️

It sounds ugly and reminds me of an oily olive 🫒

Quincette · 28/12/2025 21:15

It’s a dreary and ugly name.

Wasn't keen at first after the (de)influencer Kate Hayes called her child Olive (or Oluffff in her pronunciation) but then my god-daughter called her daughter it and she's absolutely adorable...
