I quite like it but it’s getting more popular if that’s something you’d be worried about. It’s on a lot of baby lists now of my friends

yes, a close friend named her baby this about 18 months ago, and it's gone from being 'huh? never heard of it' to 'there were two others in baby sensory with the same name,' in just that short span. I think it's nice though.

I used to teach a little Raya (I think that part of her family originated from Central America), and another girl with a slightly longer name that could be shortened to Raya, so I like it!

I wouldnt pick it personally but pretty much anything goes these days so if you like it go for it

My son's girlfriends name is Raya pronounced R -ai -ya .She is 25 so long before the dating app. Think it's a gorgeous name.

I met a lady called Reya recently (pronounced, I assume, the same as Raya) and genuinely my first thought was what an unusual and beautiful name.
I've not heard of the dating app

I like it - it fits with current naming trends (short, vowelly) but is a little different.

Raya’s very pretty in sound imo, but it does feel quite 2020’s/trendy to me (partly because every other little girl at the moment has a short, 2 syllable “ah” ending name - the rest are 2 syllable and end in “ee” instead 🤣).

And there might be possible spelling issues (as I have seen Reya and Rhea), although Raya seems by far the most popular spelling. But there are much worse names out there, so I say go for it if it’s the name you are most drawn to.

It is an actual word in an Asian language for a specific female goddess. I’d think works very well for migrant or mixed heritage families seeking short simple baby names in the West yet honouring their culture/ethnicity/language .

I really like it. Never heard of the dating app so the only place I've heard it before is from Raya and the Last Dragon, and that's not a bad thing.

Lovely name. Had never heard of the dating app that some other people have mentioned, so I wouldn’t let that put you off. It’s so much nicer than some of the horror names usually mentioned on here.
If it works for you and you both like it - go for it!

I know a fabulous 12 year old Raya, so for that reason I love the name. But even stand alone it's good.
