Very ordinary girls names

Trying to think of girls names that are extremely normal 😅 just good strong classic names.

What I'm thinking is a long the lines of Hannah, Amy, Charlotte etc etc.

I want to avoid anything too unusual, too vintage or too whimsy.

Any suggestions welcome

@Pranksters You missed Ellie/Ella, Sophia/Sofia, Isla, Lily, Lila, ...

Pranksters · 10/12/2025 13:27

Are you wanting avoid popular or common at school? If so then don’t choose Evie, Ava, Ivy, Ada, Mia, Mila, Mya, Olivia, Amelia, Freya, Poppy, Daisy, Maisie, Isla, Orla, Florence, Sienna, Darcey, Isabel, Isabella or Sophie. We’ve had a few Ophelia’s recently too.

Also love Martha but it's already in the family!

@FuzzyWolf I agree, in my head I think names popular in the 90s are "normal" whereas someone who grew up in the 70s will have a completely different idea.

Royal family names: Elizabeth, Anne, Mary, Victoria, Catherine, Sophie, Charlotte, Alice, Margaret, Louise, Beatrice, Alexandra, Helena

Biblical names: Esther, Eve, Sarah, Rachel, Rebecca, Miriam, Mary, Ruth, Naomi, Abigail, Leah, Lydia, Phoebe, Deborah, Lois ...

Some of the Shakespearean names.

It’s interesting that you want “normal”. My DD1 has a fairly unusual name and she says it’s been invaluable for her on her working life. People remember her. It’s been great for networking apparently. If she was plain Emma (there were 4 in her class at school) I’m not sure she’d be saying the same. A good name has many facets - blending in or being memorable in a good way.

As a safe bet, go for Royal names or Biblical makes.

Emanwenym · 10/12/2025 12:41

Royal family names (not Sussex or Phillips) or biblical are safe.
Use the ONS site (Baby names since 1904: how has yours performed? - Office for National Statistics) or Baby name explorer to see if the names show any sharp curves.

Normal changes over time. Just look at the recent most popular names, especially for in your area, as they will be the normal ones where you are.

Tattletail · 10/12/2025 12:34
