And how would you initially pronounce it?

Naya like Naya Rivera or with the emphasis on the Y?

I read it like Naya Rivera

Middle name options:
Iris
Elena
Sophia

i don’t know Naya Rivera so that doesn’t help

I wouldn’t know if it was neigh-a or nai-a

either wag it sounds like a derivative of the word “no”

Nyah I like.

GripGetter · 14/12/2025 21:50

If you use the name, don't move to Germany. Spelled naja there, it's a multi-purpose negative interjection. Like calling your kid Meh or Idunno.

DuchessOfNarcissex · 14/12/2025 20:41

It might be pronounced differently if it originated elsewhere.

RubyBirdy · 14/12/2025 20:17

@DuchessOfNarcissex @HerVagestyTheQueef I said thank you you for correcting me and told the OP to ignore my previous advice?? There is absolutely no need to keep posting at me going on about it when I’ve clearly accepted your original posts.

I know a Nyah - it’s a pretty name

But Nyah is a different name.... 😆

Christmasjummy · 14/12/2025 18:27

Have you considered Ngaio pronounced Nay-o?

DuchessOfNarcissex · 14/12/2025 18:24

@RubyBirdy ,it is a well-known Welsh name.
What @HerVagestyTheQueef said.

It's a very popular Welsh name and has been for decades. If your friend claims that the Welsh name Nia is pronounced “Nigh-a” then she has no understanding of the Welsh language.
It's the equivalent of saying the Irish name Niamh is pronounced Nigh-am.
Nia (given name) - Wikipedia

Oh dear, thank you for correcting me - the girl I know called this clearly pronounces her own name wrong! Ignore my advice OP!

Edited

Your friend can pronounce her name however she likes.

However your assertion that the Welsh name Nia is pronounced “Nigh-a” is incorrect.
It’s pronounced “Nee-a”.

RubyBirdy · 13/12/2025 19:36

HerVagestyTheQueef · 02/12/2025 23:02

Nia is pronounced Nigh-ah

Not in Wales it’s not! It’s Nee-a!

ETA - didn’t see the post 2 above mine! 😬

Pryceosh1987 · 03/12/2025 02:07

It depends on the childs race and heritage. Iris sounds nice though.

HerVagestyTheQueef · 02/12/2025 23:02

RubyBirdy · 02/12/2025 20:06

Nia is pronounced nigh-ah, I would use this spelling if that is the pronunciation you are after, as it is a well-known Welsh name.

DuchessOfNarcissex · 02/12/2025 20:20

@RubyBirdy , The Welsh name Nia is NOT pronounced nigh-ah. It's Nee-ah.

meghansturkey · 02/12/2025 20:13

It makes me think of lions on the lion 🦁 king !

HerVagestyTheQueef · 02/12/2025 19:15

It sounds a bit too negative to me… nay!

Kumquatzest · 02/12/2025 17:06

I'd say it like Naya Rivera. I know the name mainly because of her.

It's nice but I think it would get mispronounced or mixed up with Maya a lot.

Littlepea26 · 30/11/2025 09:11

@Snowflakesarefallingdown i like it, it’s on my list but spelt naia, I was pronouncing as nay-a not nya

DirtyFrie · 30/11/2025 09:05

I would pronounce it neigh-ah, like the sound a horse makes

Chichichochi · 29/11/2025 07:26

Maya or Nyah

Not Naya

LadyGAgain · 29/11/2025 07:05

Go with Nyla.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 29/11/2025 05:48

I read it N-ay-uh which I don’t like. If you’re pronouncing it Ny-uh, that’s better but still not great.

Sparklesandspandexgallore · 29/11/2025 05:40

No I don’t like it.

YellowCherry · 29/11/2025 04:53

Too similar to the very popular Maya - she'll spend her life saying "no, it's Naya with an N".

Princessfluffy · 29/11/2025 04:51

It sounds like a version of the word No
