Baby names

Find baby name inspiration and advice on the Mumsnet Baby Names forum.

I suggest Grace, Anna, Lydia, he suggests Yvette... I'm thinking the problem is bigger than babynaming....have you had any suggestions from DH/DP that made you choke on your cereal?

fortunately this was idle chatter about a not-yet conceived child, so we have time to work on it....

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

dh suggested Judas and he wasn't even joking either

Bronze · 14/06/2008 13:04

Himselfs favourite name does happen to be his exgirlfriends name. Luckily he could understand why I refused.

evenhope · 14/06/2008 12:56

DH vetoed all my names. His suggestions were Roger and Daisy. Roger?!!

Quattrocento · 13/06/2008 23:03

See I believe in the mum's right to name ... you're letting your dh have far too much input on this issue

mollysawally · 13/06/2008 23:01

OMG kat!

cece · 13/06/2008 14:21

When I was pg with the second child (turned out to be a oy so he had a lucky escape. DH wanted Ethan and I wanted Sidney. I don't think you can be much further apart than that! We settled on a third option. In act the only name we agreed on!

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 13/06/2008 14:18

Osama!

Seriously, he's muslim, didn't see the prob...

Sanguine · 11/06/2008 12:05

DH is into icelandic sagas, and was well up for Gudrun for a girl!! I vetoed that one, he vetoed my favourite boys name, Ashley. It all gets sorted in the end.

LuLuBai · 11/06/2008 11:59

I know somebody who is named after an ex-girlfriend of her father's.

Unbelievable really.

mollysawally · 11/06/2008 11:57

OMG IVY

Imagine if you hadn't found out and named your baby after his mistress.

WHAT A COMPLETE AR*SEHOLE

ivyJkaty44 · 11/06/2008 06:17

Yes exd/h gave me a name and I declined - unfortunately I found out two months later that saud name was the same as his mistress.........
We divorced before baby arrived and I named baby.

Jackaroo · 11/06/2008 05:56

Oh this makes me feel SOOO much better Thanks all - I think you're right about some of his suggestions just being a bit 70's. Maybe he was thinking of first crushes (although I hate to think where Brenda came into it.........)

My DH refused to even discuss girl names first time round, so confident was he that he was going to have a son and name him Jarrow !?!

We had a girl. Ha ha ha

CurrantBM · 10/06/2008 17:39

DH wanted Kiki for DD2.

It didn't happen.

mollysawally · 10/06/2008 17:02

Dh liked fawn, then he found kasia.

I compromised and kasia is dd's middle name.

halogen · 10/06/2008 16:53

I really like Gillian and don't mind Karen but they just sound like names of people my age (nearly forty) to me.

missingtheaction · 10/06/2008 16:52

Chelsea.

zippitippitoes · 10/06/2008 16:51

dd2 bf wanted their little boy to be called G

Weegiemum · 10/06/2008 16:48

I think Gillian and Karen are lovely! My dd1 who is 8 has a good friend called Karen, and ds (6) has a Gillian in his class. I like these kind of plain, decent names!

what is it about blokes thinking it's hilarious to come up with rubbish names? DH and I bickered for about 8 months about ds' name... he came up with Enzo, Magic (wtf??) thor (ditto) Hercules (oh Lordy) and a variety of ridiculous names mostly those of Italian footballers. Fine if you're the bronzed adonis captain of the Italian national side, not so great if you're a little boy born in Tooting!

ShowOfHands · 10/06/2008 14:26

My dh will only pick names of comic book characters.

halogen · 10/06/2008 14:21

My partner suggested Gillian and Karen when I pressed him to come up with a girls name he liked. Sigh.

minniedot · 10/06/2008 10:36

What about Lisette? It's pretty and french!

bamamama · 10/06/2008 04:24

When trying to think of a name for ds my dh suggested...

'Blakey'

(yes, as in On the Buses).
He still maintains he was serious. Fool.
