Still No Name for Baby Girl

KLRJ · 18/11/2025 12:32

Officially made it to two weeks with no name for baby girl and I feel beyond awful about it! Every name seems to have something about it that I don't like.

-Faye: love the name in theory, but calling her it seems awkward and clunky because of the single syllable and there being no obvious ways to make it seem affectionate

-Ruby: absolutely love it, sounds SO cute with our surname (Robson) but at #41 with 1020 girls given the name last year, it's more popular than my other children's names and I worry about her being surrounded by others with the same name

-Rosa: also love it, sounds incredibly classy and goes quite well with our surname (not as well as Ruby), but obvious nickname is Rosie which I don't like and is also very popular

Help me decide please! Also I'd love any other suggestions if anyone has any please. Had a couple of suggestions of Romilly on my last post which I thought was super cute but husband disagrees 🫠

Ruby is great - a real strong name. I am only pit off that as my neighbour had a chocolate Labrador called Ruby and she was so naughty hahahaha (charmingly naughty though and very cute)
Faye is lovely. It sounds very gentle to me, yet strong at the same time. I love one syllable names though.

Edited

Bella has been on my list but I've been slightly put off of it by my cousins lab! 😂 My grandparents had a dog called one of the very obvious nicknames for my name just before I was born, and so I've always refused to go by that nickname 😂

All lovely names. None too common .
You could just call her Faye darling/ darling Faye.

How about you flip a coin , choose a name for a day and use it , the next day use another one. Try all three and see which you like most.
It’s win win here . Or use two that you love Rosa Faye, Faye Ruby with one the middle name

Love this idea and we're going to give that a go, although calling her Ruby so far today is feeling very natural!

I can't help but think how pathetic it is that people will avoid a name that they love just because other children are named it.

TMac15 · 19/11/2025 13:41

I have a Rubie, spelling it with the 'ie' at the end makes it different. My other daughter is Hallie so wanted them similar 😊

AcropolisNow · 19/11/2025 13:19

Current names I like, that are hopefully not dated:
Rosalind
Eleanor
Fiona
Catherine

Jugendstiel · 19/11/2025 12:53

I absolutely love Rosa Pearl. I know two Rosas (Forty years apart in age!) and they have never been nicknamed Rosie as it isn't any quicker to say. They are always Rosa. It is such a beautiful name. And Pearl is such a wonderful symbolic name - creating something precious from grit. I hope you go for this one.

DuchessOfNarcissex · 19/11/2025 12:50

@StrongandNorthern , Grin why aye!

I actually love that ❤️ Bobbi Robson sounds really cool!

Bobby Robson was a football manager. Just sayin'

StrongandNorthern · 19/11/2025 12:41

Love 'Ruby Robson'!
As a pp has said - most Rubies are teens now.
Rosa also lovely. I know two (teens and twenties) - neither have ever become Rosie.end
Much prefer both those names to Faye, however it works really well with both as a middle name.

Agree I have a Faye, has always said she is glad no obvious nicknames.
Ruby is lovely as well the only one I know is in her thirties none in my dgd’s classes at primary school.

I love Ruby but I’m hesitant to keep it on my list for the same reason as you.

Having said that, I only know of 1 Ruby who is 5 ish years old.

Also love Rosa.

I vote for Ruby though!

Inspired from your list ..
Sophie Isabella
Rosa Faye

Faye Robson is a lovely name. Why does it need to 'sound affectionate'. Surely you will show her affection by loving her everyday, not by giving her a daft nickname.

@Soccermom2020 "Also Evie is cute not 2 many either." You what? There are thousands of them.

@J18 , good alliteration, with less risk of being Wooby Wobson.

DuchessOfNarcissex · 19/11/2025 10:34

It's a no brainer. The perfect name is Bobbi.

I actually love that ❤️ Bobbi Robson sounds really cool!

J18 · 19/11/2025 12:11

All 3 are lovely names!

I don't think any are too common and you can control nicknames to some extent until they get big enough to choose their own.

Freya could be an alternative to Faye. We have a Frances which we love as not too unusual or common and easy to spell.

I'm personally not an alliteration fan but if you like it then just go for it, it will become her name and you won't be able to see how she could have possibly suited any other name after a few months.

justticketyboo · 19/11/2025 10:59

I love Romilly. Definitely could be shortened to Romi/Romy

Thank you so much everyone for all of your responses, it's been really helpful to hear some real world feedback on the popularity of Ruby. I think the decision fatigue, the whirlwind of life with a newborn and the post partum hormones and tiredness have had me picking apart every decision to a new extreme, so thank you all for helping me rationalise! I think she's going to be my little Ruby! 🥹

That’s lovely! Ruby is a gorgeous name 💕

Mulledjuice · 19/11/2025 10:47

Faye.

Faye-Faye for cuteness

Rollercoasteryears · 19/11/2025 10:47

I see you’ve probably decided on Ruby, which is a lovely name.

Just to add though, I have a teenage Rosa and she’s never been nicknamed Rosie by anyone. And I still love the name Rosa and think it goes beautifully with your surname - though so does Ruby, so you can’t go wrong!

Another vote for Ruby. Lovely name and, if it helps, I have an 8 year old and in her entire life we've only met one other Ruby.

Hohumdedum · 19/11/2025 10:03

Soccermom2020 · 19/11/2025 07:54

My lb is in pre school and there's only 1 Ruby I agree with the other posts it was more popular 2007/08 maybe it's a lovely name.
Also Evie is cute not 2 many either.
What about Mia
Ciara
Orla
Hope this helps it is a lot more difficult to pick out a girls name I think 2.

Evie or similar is soooooo common around here! I know multiple Evies, Aoifes, Evelyns, Eves, Evas, Avas....

ickystickybubblegun · 19/11/2025 09:37

Go with Ruby
