Opinions on the name Avia?

Avia means “God is my father" from a Hebrew root, and "bird" from Latin.

I think it’s a lovely name. But I also like Aviva!

Oldandcobwebby · 26/11/2025 11:25

The only use of the name Avia that I'm aware of is the mid- market Swiss watch company that's been around for 100+ years. I've got one!

It's not objectionable, but I wouldn't pick it for my own daughter, to be honest. It's obviously going to get shortened to Avi, and I don't like the way that sounds

Never heard of them.

I don’t think we have them in my area.

They are all over the place in France. I guess if you don't live in France (or wherever else there might be Avia petrol stations) then it doesn't really matter. It's not an unpleasant connotation for a name to have (unless you're involved in Just Stop Oil, lol) just kind of random.

That's Avios, @SpottyAardvark

SpottyAardvark · 19/11/2025 08:30

Avia is British Airways’ loyalty scheme, isn’t it?

theunbreakablecleopatrajones · 19/11/2025 08:26

Insurance

GoodVibesHere · 18/11/2025 22:35

It makes me think of avian flu.

kotordreams · 18/11/2025 22:32

I read it as Aviva and thought insurance company

Jamesblonde2 · 18/11/2025 22:29

Sounds like a bathroom cleaner.

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 18/11/2025 22:28

Not heard of it before and wouldn’t know how it was pronounced but do like it. I prefer the Aviya spelling though.

WithChips · 18/11/2025 22:13

It's ok but my first thought was aviary (as in a big bird cage.)

Kindnesscostsnothingtryit · 18/11/2025 18:04

I honestly thought it was an airline company.

tempname1234 · 18/11/2025 18:01

I’m very sorry but because we’re based in Uk, I see that name and think Aviva (insurance). May with very well someplace where Aviva insurance isn’t so known

localnotail · 18/11/2025 17:56

Aviva )))) silly name, sorry

Nc3325 · 18/11/2025 16:38

Sorry but it made me think of avian flu 🙁

Moreteaandchocolate · 18/11/2025 15:29

I like it but I think it could get misheard / misread as Ava, given that’s so popular at the moment.

mathanxiety · 18/11/2025 02:16

Avia is a brand of fairly cheap running shoes.

I'd swerve if I were you.

bridgetreilly · 17/11/2025 22:16

It sounds a bit corporate made up name to me, sorry. I could totally imagine Amazon coming out with an AI assistant called Avia.

ibuprofenhead · 17/11/2025 22:03

I think it’s absolutely lovely ☺️

Interesting!

Does she like her name if you don’t mind me asking? And do you get any issues with pronunciation or spelling?

I think she loves it ! It’s very her if that makes any sense… she’s a bit of a free spirit and it seems to match that.

lots of people pronounce it as the poster put above, or even a,vee, yer but she’s very easy going so doesn’t matter to her! She’s travelling and just met another Aviya so was thrilled about that !

BakedBeeeen · 17/11/2025 20:43

Yes I thought insurance too

My daughter has this name. Usually spelt Aviya in English. Named to honour my late father and inspired by the film The Summer of Aviya!
it’s very unusual but we do know a few other girls with this name (it’s actually gender neutral and my husband did once meet an older man called Aviya).

Interesting!

Maybe a bit niche but makes me think of the Shaytards (horrendous name) - aMormon vlogging family with questionable morals who have a kid called Avia.

Pretty name.
