We’re due a baby girl very soon and still undecided about the name - we have plenty we like, none either of us really love. The current shortlist is:

Abigail
Ada
Grace
Isobel
Lucy
Mabel
Madeline
Phoebe

I also like Beatrice, Clara, Cora and Martha, but DH doesn’t.

All names go equally well with our surname. The middle name will be Rose after a family member but we are not too worried about the name ‘flowing’, nor are we overly worried about popularity.

Please help!

I love Grace. They are all nice.
I think Madeline will be very popular at the moment because of Lily Allen.

Claudia

Lovely list, all nice names. I think my favourite is Abigail, but also like Mabel.

ilovepixie · 07/11/2025 13:32

Madeline reminds me of the missing child. I like Lucy. It’s timeless and classy. Why not wait till the baby is here and see what suits her.

foofyboobies · 07/11/2025 13:30

Lucy. Or Grace.
Lucy just jumped out to me when I read your post.
Lucy Rose is beautiful. 💗

Loving all the feedback and thoughts so far.

Adeline is a great idea and solves the Maddie issue (as we don’t love this shortening). I’ll suggest it to my husband.

Glad to see Abigail love as this one has been met with some raised eye brows in real life for some reason! Not super keen on Abby though - is it inevitable?

Claudia is an interesting choice, I hadn’t thought of that at all.

Alice and Isla are definitely our style but both family names.

Adeline is lovely, but do you like Addie? I do, but just checking as you don’t like Maddie? The Adeline I know is exclusively known as Addie.

I think Abbie is inevitable with Abigail (in the long run anyway, you can control it when they’re little). I love Abbie but I’d avoid Abigail if you don’t like it.

I know a little Claudia, it does sound gorgeous on her! Although she could become Claudie as a teen…!

From your list my favourites are Lucy and Ada. I also love Adeline, Ida, Claudia and Iris (which I think have a similar vibe).

namestealer · 07/11/2025 09:18

By the way - I know you're not worried about popularity but I have a 4yo and a 9mo and except for Clara I don't recall hearing any of the names you've mentioned at any baby/toddler groups, nursery or school.

I love Abigail the most, followed by Grace and Madeline. The only one I'm not keen on is Ada... but do think it goes nicely with Rose. The rest are ok.

My DD is Lyra.
not on your list of course, but my advice is, if you don’t LOVE it, it’s not right.

LaserPumpkin · 06/11/2025 23:48

I’d go for Lucy or Abigail from your list

Proudofitbabe · 06/11/2025 23:48

Absolutely love Martha!!
Backups for me Mabel or Phoebe.

if you like Clara, what about Clarissa or Claudia?

Crispynoodle · 06/11/2025 23:45

Adaline

LavenderMillie · 06/11/2025 23:44

I love Phoebe. I also like Abigail because it’s less used atm.

what about
Cara/Lara/Laura
Olivia
Bella/Isabella
Isla
Alice
Harriet
Zoe

Firsttimebabymummy · 06/11/2025 22:32

Abigail- lovely, underused classic
Ada - bit trendy.
Grace - lovely but you've nicer mames
Isobel- really lovely name! Classic
Lucy- pretty, underused
Mabel - too trendy; especially as a dogs name
Madeline - lovely
Phoebe - lovely

My favourite is Isobel, then Lucy, Pheobe and Abigail (as long as you like Abbie- I do!)

notatinydancer · 06/11/2025 21:32

I like Madeleine , not too keen on the diminutive Maddie though. Josephine? Diminutive Jo or Josie ? Or obviously just use the full name.

Hazelmaybe · 06/11/2025 21:24

I love Phoebe

Mumofgirls2017 · 06/11/2025 19:20
