I really like Henry, however partners cousin has recently called their child Henry

their middle name will be William.
at the moment the shortlist is:

  • Frederick William
  • Theodore William
  • Oscar William
  • Alfie William
  • Arthur William
  • Archie William
  • Henry William
  • Patrick William
any new suggestions welcome

Have you chosen yet @ChicNavyPanda?

Benjamin

Peter William.

Pettenell · 20/01/2026 08:03

I wouldn't worry about a cousin having a Henry - it's such a mainstream name. I really like all on your list but I think Alfie is a lot more casual in style and doesn't go as well with George. I feel Archie works though.

My favourites are Oscar, Archie, Henry and Patrick.

Edgar
Rufus
Magnus
Roderick

Henry or Frederick! Both lovely choices.

Silverbirchleaf · 20/01/2026 06:52

Frederick from your list.

Suggestions-
Thomas
Alfred
Adam
Nicholas
Robert

Strawberrymoonx · 20/01/2026 06:42

We have a George Alexander and a Thomas William 😊

OopsieeDaisy · 10/11/2025 22:06

I love Henry and if it’s your favourite you should use it anyway! I also really like William as a first name if that could be an option instead? Or as a few PPs have suggested, Harry is lovely.

how about Che like the rapper he makes fantastic music

Heiwiwhaoaowo · 05/11/2025 23:02

Came to suggest Alexander, but can see that’s not on the cards!

I like Henry and Patrick best from your list. I don’t think it matters at all that your partner’s cousin has a Henry. Frederick is nice but I feel like Freddie is ubiquitous. I also think John or James would be lovely.

mamaduckbone · 05/11/2025 21:18

Arthur is my favourite by a country mile.

BringBackCatsEyes · 05/11/2025 20:57

Oliver

It was a joke suggestion.

I'm not keen on Oscar either. George and Henry are good solid classic names but Oscar makes me think of a pet's name.

Edited

Or Oscar the Grouch.

Though he is cute.

Loving all the David love here- it’s my George’s middle name and we briefly considered it for his first name. Very underused imho.

In the same vein, might I suggest John?

David and John both elegant classics and very underused.
OP I have an aversion to nicknames used as given names and dislike Alfie anyway, unless for a pet. Don’t like Archie for the same reasons.
I probably like Patrick best from your list.

Richard William would be Dick Willy. Id probably avoid that Lol

Fair.

I like all those with the exception of Patrick. Edward? Richard? Going with the King theme.

@TheCraicDealer , I like John and David too.

I think George and Louis is a bit cringe - kind of like the William and Harry combo in my day.

It was a joke suggestion.

Pranksters · 05/11/2025 18:52

I like Theodore but Theo. I don’t think popularity matters as George is already hugely popular. There are 6 in my DC’s year at school, along with Oscar (which I don’t like).

Like:
Patrick (will DS3 and DS4 be David and Andrew?)
Henry (wouldn't worry about the cousin)
Arthur - but very popular
Frederick - not sure. Freddie's ok
Oscar - not sure

Suggest:
Thomas
David
Michael
Peter
James
Louis Wink
Charlie
Harry
Toby
Sam

Bin:
Alfie
Archie
Theodore.

I was going to suggest Henry!
Frederick is my favourite.
Patrick is lovely, and now quite unusual.
How about:
Edward
Anthony
Laurence
David
I like your list apart from Alfie and Archie. They're both very common, and will probably date, if that matters to you.

Same. Only I'd cross off Oscar as well as Archie and Alfie.

Don't think they are quite of the same ilk as the others.

I'd probably go for Frederick.
