Which to go for!?

Other suggestions welcome too… We already have a Poppy! Love the name Clover, but would never be brave enough.

My DD is Alice so I may be biased.

Freya is also pretty. Please don't burden your child with Clover!

Clover is a tub of margarine.

So what? It's also a plant. Iris, another similar name, is the coloured part of the eye...

Pemba · 31/10/2025 05:05

Alice is beautiful.

pincklop · 31/10/2025 04:52

Alissa or Elisa are slightly different

Alice. It is classic and a royal name. There won't be that many of them either.Which is good.

Freya is very trendy and overused.

There's been at least one child named Alice in the majority of classes I've taught over the last 15 years. It's much more likely to have a class with an Alice than one without. (English teacher, high school).

Also, for people of a certain age it might make them think of the song 'Alice? Alice? Who the - is Alice?'

LivingTheDreamish · 31/10/2025 01:27

I prefer Freya over Alice, but love the idea of Clover and Poppy. Go with Clover OP!

Pranksters · 31/10/2025 00:31

Freya is so popular it’s dull. I have several friends with Freyas. Especially if you just stick Rose on the end like every other Freya.

In order of preference:

  1. Clover
  2. Alice
  3. Freya

Poppy and Freya - perfect together!

Calliopespa · 30/10/2025 22:37

I've always really loved Alice, though MN is putting me off it a bit by calling so many boys Ellis - which I really don't like.

Freya is also nice.

Can I suggest you DON'T do the "Holly and Ivy", "Clover and Daisy" type name scheme? They are all generally nice names on their own, but when you do a pair or a string of them it does sound like a garden centre, and you are naming babies not plants.

Tralalalama · 30/10/2025 22:35

Love Clover. Don’t think it’s mad unusual, becoming more popular, go for it

HugoYorway · 30/10/2025 22:34

@LolaBumble , I think Poppy is a lovely name.

No to Alys. It just looks wrong.

Traytors · 30/10/2025 22:34

I think Alice (or Alys).

Much prefer it to Freya, which is a lovely name but massively overused here. We know several, all my dc have a Freya or 2 in their friendship circles. A name that ubiquitous just loses its sparkle a bit for me.

user2848502016 · 30/10/2025 22:33

Alice Clover

JH0404 · 30/10/2025 22:32

Alice

GoldenNuggets08 · 30/10/2025 22:31

Love love love the name Alice but my OH vetoed it! I always hesitate before I say the name Freya, I dont know why. It just doesn't flow for me.

LolaBumble · 30/10/2025 22:23

Ooh wow thank you for all the comments! Alice has gone down better than I expected, a real split! I probably prefer Alice, but worried it could be a bit boring, I think it’s such a pretty name though.

I prefer Alice, of the two. I don't dislike Freya but it seems to have lost some charm in recent years, due to overuse.

fairycupcakes · 30/10/2025 22:12

Freya! I adore Freya. Alice is pretty but does feel quite boring next to Poppy.

Alice by a million miles. Freya is so overused it's frayed.
