Thoughts on seasons for names….

Very very early days. Don’t even know the sex of baby but;

What’s your take on seasons used as first names? Ie
Winter (for a boy)
Autumn (for a girl)
Summer (for a girl)

and the connotations for each name?

I really like Autumn and Winter as names but only for a girl.

The only Winter I have ever known was female so I also think of that as a girl’s name.

Personally, I don’t like any season names or month names. I used to know a May who was born in May, which was fair enough, but I also used to know a June who wasn’t born in June, which I thought was odd.

I have no objection to names with seasonal connotations though. For example I know a Robin who was born very close to Christmas, which I thought was a nice nod to the season - and I think names like Holly, Ivy, Carol and Noel are also fine (though necessarily to my taste). Similarly I have no problem with names like Dawn or Eve for babies born at those times of day.

@BoleynMemories13 , May is a diminutive of Mary as well as a month's name.

I don't really like seasonal names. They seem a bit like they've been chosen for a reason not because the parents liked the name.
The non-obvious ones like Carol or Holly are not too bad, but I wouldn't want to be a Noella, April or Winter.

Genuinely interested to know what you mean by ‘classy’? What names do you consider classy?

im guessing our tastes are different and perception is different x

Thanks for the feedback. I know a little boy called Winter so assumed it was a boys name but I like it for a girl!

Depends when they are born! Autumn and Summer are fine for girls, Winter is ok but more as a girls name. Spring is definitely out!

I've only known Winter to be used for girls. I don't like it for either, but definitely not for a boy.

Summer is pretty enough. I'm not mad on seasonal names, but see it as no different to month names (April, May, June).

I'm not a fan of Autumn, as I don't find it particularly pretty, but have heard it often enough now to accept it as a name. Winter really isn't for me though. It just sounds so cold (pardon the pun 😂 ).

Funny how Spring has never caught on. It's weird where some people draw the line. If Winter is acceptable as a name (for some), why not Spring?

For girls its OK. I couldn't saddle a boy with the name Winter tbh. Maybe cute for a little baby, but not as an adult

I know Summer is very popular and I quite like it but I heard a little girl called Winter the other day and it really suited her.
