Kitrick...?

So our son is names Kit. My husband and I put down Kristian on the BC as my husband wanted a 'full name'. I have never gelled with Kristian despite us only calling him Kit. If I were to change it I really like Kitrick! (I actually find myself calling him that when I want to full name bim). I just wanted to know people's thoughts on the name! I think it's Scottish and means 'true victory'!

It might cause lifelong ongoing admin hoo ha for him if you change / amend his BC.

You like Kit, just use Kit.

Stick with Kit.

Kitrick might be a cute little name you call him when he's little but doubt he'd appreciate it when a teen.

Kids will call him shitbrick

What about Kristoffer/Kristopher if you really don't want to use Christopher. Kitrick is awful (another Scot here who's never heard of it).

Just keep calling him Kit

And Kitrick as a pet name if you feel like it.

It doesn’t matter what the ‘correct’ diminution is, just call him Kit and use that as ‘known as’.

And if you call him Kitkind, Kittooloo, Kitrick, Kitso or whatever as an affectionate name at home… fine!

I know it as an Irish surname. I don't mind it for a first name but why if you aren't going to use it would you bother, just name him kit

I would use it as a full name and call him Kitrick! Kit as a nn.

Kit could be short for Kitrick, like Pat is for Patrick!

The natural shortening for Christian, Christoph or Christopher is Chris.

Kitrick?? You can’t be serious? I can’t decide if it reminds me of Patrick or Kit-Kat. Either way stick to Kristian. Although as others have said, Kit is short for Christopher.

I don't think Kitrick is a name is it? Just leave him as Kristian which is a name and carry on calling him Kit.
Both Kristan and Kit are much nicer than Kitrick

if you call him Kit and that’s what he goes by, why do you care? Unless it has a reason, I think you are creating a future minor admin issue for your son that has no purpose. He will be asked to provide birth certificate at certain points and need to also find this change of name proof.

This might be my terrible organisation and hatred of admin speaking though.

Kitrick is ridiculous.

Christopher is the only name I know Kit to be short for. Anything else seems contrived.

If you don't like Christopher, Kit as a stand alone name is preferable. Definitely not Kitrick!

I think people will be agog if you change your child’s name from an ordinary name to Kitrick. Or Balonz. I agree with a pp that it sounds like Catterick with an accent.

Kitrick is really bad, sorry! Kristian nn Kit works well, and he’s got the option of Chris if he likes when older too.

Kit is usually short for Christopher - is this an option? I'm Scottish and have never heard of Kitrick but if you like it (for what it's worth, I think its quite a nice sound) go for it!

I generally think you should call children what you want but honestly if I heard the name Kitrick I would think you made it up. Sorry.
