Use this test- Imagine if when your DC grows up and wants to be an MP or High Court Judge.

Nobody will take them seriously if they are called Baby. The Right Honourable Baby Smith MP

Haha I get asked that a lot, but no! I’ve just met a few Baby’s and loved their name!

You’re not allowed to name a baby Baby in the UK - a simple google will quash your dream I’m afraid!

Your girl names aren’t unusual (other than Baby obvs!), just Marcella sounds like you’re birthing a 60 year old. Boys names - Samuel and Arthur, you can do better! You’ve definitely got it in you! 😆

Guys I’m not actually going to name a child Baby 😂 christ almighty I thought obvious satire would be obvious

You don’t understand what satire is but perhaps that would make a nice name?

user2848502016 · 27/10/2025 16:50

Please please don’t call your kid Baby!! (And yes I have met an adult called Baby but it was a nickname and she was American)

I did know a guy called December though so I think that works for a boy or girl

Likewise Wren, Robin or Rowan could work for either sex

The obvious satire where you repeatedly told us you know "multiple people" (boys and girls) called Baby.... right so! I think you need to hone your satirical skills.

God give me strength 🙄

Do NOT call your child BABY. That is ridiculous!

Jasper is fine. Jessie and Baby are nicknames used by your mum. NOT your mates at school or down the Rugby club or even at Ballet School - you have no idea what kind of personality, hobbies, looks a baby boy would grow into. Can you imagine a male judge called Baby?

Ah I think I get the confusion on Jassie now, the names in brackets are just nicknames for that name, the child wouldn’t just be called Jassie as their actual name :) Of course they could choose never to introduce themselves as Jassie to peers and just stick with Jasper or Jas!

Were they born and raised in the UK or similar country with English as the first language? I have met a woman called Baby but it was in India. I can’t imagine a teen sitting in an English-speaking secondary school whilst the register is being called with the name Baby without being teased miserably, especially a boy! It would be cruel to call a child Baby in the UK, they absolutely will have issues as they grow up.

They were born in this country but not to native English speakers so that definitely played a part in their naming. But they were raised here and didn’t experience bullying related to their names (I have asked them both!). Would it sway you at all if I said I have no plans for them to attend a public secondsry school? I plan to send my children to nursery/primary school but homeschool from secondary onwards due to my disdain for the current system and curriculum

I’ve met multiple adults with this name and they’ve had no issue. I’ve met people with MUCH more ridiculous names that I would consider bullying 😬

I teach teenager boys and the idea of one of them being called Jassie or Baby is making my toes curl. Quite cruel really.

I expected the backlash on Baby but Jasper? That’s quite a common and traditional name?? Jassie is the natural nickname for it, but of course they don’t have to use that nickname with their friends. The name Jasper is quite old, I thought!

You do know you’re naming a person who will eventually become an adult, not a doll, right?

This. Imagine being in your 20s and starting work and having to introduce yourself as Baby, especially as a man. Don’t be cruel to
your child before they’re even born!

I’ve met multiple adults with this name and they’ve had no issue. I’ve met people with MUCH more ridiculous names that I would consider bullying 😬
