we really like this name for our baby boy but everyone we have told in real life hates it and says he would be bullied as he grows older. But this generation of children has all sorts of names and I don’t think it’s a name that’s bully worthy?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

poshcrisps · 21/10/2025 14:48

That is not a name. That's child cruelty.

Where’s the 😂 Mumsnet, I need it…

muddyford · 21/10/2025 17:22

Absolutely ghastly.

SL2924 · 21/10/2025 17:21

😂😂 funniest Mumsnet post in ages. It’s so awful I actually can’t stop laughing. Please don’t call your child this.

godmum56 · 21/10/2025 17:20

call the child Balonz and have done with it

BreatheAndFocus · 21/10/2025 17:16

Yeah, and his siblings could be called Whosdat and Howcum.

Seriously, OP - a definite No. It sounds horrible and he’ll end up being called Whhhhyyyyyy or Wibby.

MischiefandMayhemManaged · 21/10/2025 17:11

Oh dear - No - thats asking for so much bullying - its not even funny.
Find something else. the EE sound really doesn't need to be in the spelling!

I see it’s short for Wyborn (which means warrior). I think I prefer the full name.

kids will be asking if his parents named him as they were questioning why he was born

oldclock · 21/10/2025 17:08

Would you like to be called Wybie? Of course not. So don't do that to your poor child.

ifherbumwereabungalow · 21/10/2025 17:05

It’s been suggested a few times here, Toby is the name of the baby that the Goblin King steals away in Labyrinth, if you want a movie connection. And you can sing ‘Dance Magic Dance’ as often as you please if you choose that one!

Bellarose53 · 21/10/2025 17:00

It sounds like a budget airline to me.
Keep looking, I liked all sorts of names that I am very glad now that I did not choose.

MassiveBackstory · 21/10/2025 16:58

Wybie Denny Different?

Fangisnotacoward · 21/10/2025 16:58

If its Wybie from Coraline - remember its short for Wyborne, as in Why were you born. Cant remember the exact quote, but thats whats said in the film.

Blosheen · 21/10/2025 16:55

Sounds like an app for holiday lets

eqpi4t2hbsnktd · 21/10/2025 16:55

Dave - nice solid name.

Fundays12 · 21/10/2025 16:55

Please don't your child will be at the very least laughed at a lot with that name at worst he will be relentlessly bullied.

Crummles1 · 21/10/2025 16:54

Obi - Wan Kenobi?

Sarah539 · 21/10/2025 16:53

Wy would you do that to a child?

What about Toby?

JulesJules · 21/10/2025 16:52

teawamutu · 21/10/2025 16:50

Sorry OP, but even if it was a proper name, which it isn't, there's no way on earth I'd name my baby anything inspired by a revolting, abusive piece of shit like NG.

I'd think again.

And this

JulesJules · 21/10/2025 16:51

God, it's awful. Awful. Please don't do this to your baby.

Louis (French pronunciation)
Rory
James nn Jamie
Henry nn Harry
Rafferty nn Raffy
Charlie

etc etc

JohnTheRevelator · 21/10/2025 16:51

Never heard of this one! Sorry, but I'm not keen!

anniebu · 21/10/2025 16:51

It sounds fine as far as the sound divorced of meaning is concerned, but if he lives among English speakers, people will have a difficult time reading his name, and it will sound like "why be?” or "We buy", which neither has good meaning nor is necessary. I would reconsider.

MadinMarch · 21/10/2025 16:51

Egregiousabsolute · 21/10/2025 13:54

Fucking hell. Wybie so cruel to your own child OP???

This.

Calliopespa · 21/10/2025 16:51

Bulbsbulbsbulbs · 21/10/2025 16:48

This is like the house near me called Wy Wurrie. Every time I walk past I cringe. But calling your kid Wy Wurrie is better than this God awful name.

Bea- Appy?

Claricecannotsleep · 21/10/2025 16:50

Lilacbluewaters · 21/10/2025 13:52

Honestly just thought it was a nice name. I’d like a boy name ending in the ee sound but can’t for the life of me find anything else I like!

I despair.

teawamutu · 21/10/2025 16:50

Sorry OP, but even if it was a proper name, which it isn't, there's no way on earth I'd name my baby anything inspired by a revolting, abusive piece of shit like NG.
