Thoughts on the name Wybie?

we really like this name for our baby boy but everyone we have told in real life hates it and says he would be bullied as he grows older. But this generation of children has all sorts of names and I don’t think it’s a name that’s bully worthy?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Absolutely appalling suggestion for a name unless you plan to hate your DS in which case it will likely provide him with a lifetime of punishment.

You should have to pick names before you're actually pregnant, because pregnancy brain really is wild. Some of the names I considered were awful. Probably not as awful as Whybe.

Yes I found a list I made when pg with ds2 and it included Fairfax! Wtaf. Tho not as bad as Whybe, sorry @Lilacbluewaters-it sounds like Flybe and the meaning is horrible.

How about
Wilby short for Wilbur
Herbie
Mikey
Stanley
Toby?

I see it’s short for Wyborn (which means warrior). I think I prefer the full name.

Omg no,that's like WHYborn, you'll set him up for a lifetime of teasing!

Bumdrops · 21/10/2025 15:02

A name not even fit for a dog ! (Sorry !)

QuickPeachPoet · 21/10/2025 15:01

Whybe will one day be asking 'why me?' why did I have to be the one given a silly name?

UnimatrixZeroOne · 21/10/2025 15:01

Don't be silly.

sittingonabeach · 21/10/2025 14:59

If you like it so much, change your name to it, don't saddle your poor child with it. Why would you want to call your child 'why were you born'?

What about Wylie?

Again, not my kind of name but similar to Wybie without the associations.

Ah like Wylie Coyote. These baby names threads are simultaneously hilarious and deeply disturbing.

Mrswhiskers87 · 21/10/2025 14:55

Aside from the fact it’s effing awful, the connection to Neil Gaiman is disturbing. Surely you can’t be serious?!

Silverbirchleaf · 21/10/2025 14:54

Wybies wobble but they never fall down!

CharlieKirkRIP · 21/10/2025 14:53

Hideous.

drspouse · 21/10/2025 14:53

Reminds me of a Theybie.

peaceinourtime · 21/10/2025 14:52

whybie maybe

BunnyLake · 21/10/2025 14:51

Can’t you find something from another movie that’s better. I have two boys and I’m pretty sure they would hate having that name.

Give him something decent and use it as a nickname. He’ll tell you when he can if you can continue using it or to stop. Give the poor boy a choice at least.

Echobelly · 21/10/2025 14:48

Wybie sounds like some sort of children's toy, and as has been pointed out, the origins rather dark.

Can you find something similar sounding? Robbie? Wiley? Riley?

poshcrisps · 21/10/2025 14:48

That is not a name. That's child cruelty.

I didn’t know anything about Coraline, but honestly my first thought was, sounds like a name for a house robot.
There will be other names with a similar sound that you will like OP.
My first thought is Rafferty - short version Raffy.

Noshadelamp · 21/10/2025 14:36

Topseyt123 · 21/10/2025 13:58

I too was going to ask about the pronunciation.

I've never heard of this name except in Coraline (by Neil Gaiman).

It's one thing for a book/film character but not for a real human child surely!! I mean "why-be" so awful to your poor baby?? He will have to grow up with a lifetime of explaining and embarrassment about his ridiculous name. That's if he doesn't change it by deed poll as soon as he is able.

Just no! Don't! Is this pregnancy hormones getting the better of you?

The Neil Gaiman connection would be enough for me, let alone everything else!
